2002 4R tire size 265/70 R16, how size tires?

HI there-

this may be a dumb question, but here we go. My son has a 2002 4R with size tires 265/70 R16. It has the standard silver wheels, and he wants black ones. I am trying to search for them, and do not understand sizing. For example, I found these:

BLACK | 15X8 | 6X5.5 | 4.25 BORE | -19

what do these sizes mean? How does that correlate to the tire size?

Other questions...anyone recommend a reasonable set of black wheels? Most i find cost between $85-$250 each. Also, right now, the tires are basic Good years, and have less than a year left. We will be upgrading these to some good all terrains too.

TIA,
Paul

Those are 15 inches in diameter (corresponds to the number after the "R" in the tire size), 8 inches wide.
6x5.5 is the same as 6x139.7 which is the correct bolt pattern.
4.25 inch bore is about 108 mm. You need 106 mm bore for it to be hubcentric.
-19 is the offset. Here's an explanation of offset:https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiret...jsp?techid=101

Unless you have a base model 4Runner (not an SR5 or Limited) then most 15 inch wheels will not work. You will need 16 inch wheels or larger. Factory wheel size is 16x7.

If it was my kid, I'd hand him 2 cans of satin black paint and tell him to get after it. You could get him a Plasti-dip kit if you are shooting for Dad of the Year award.

Thank you for the explanation! How do I know how wide to get? Looks like doing a search for 16 inch with 6X5.5 brings back mostly 8 or 10 inch wide.

I thought about this...this stuff looks pretty good! I guess you would take wheel off to do it? Or do you do it with it on the car?

You can do it wheel-on. The kit has bags to cover the disc and calipers. You spray some stuff they provide on the rubber so the dip doesn't adhere. It's stupid-easy and provides fairly instant gratification. Looks decent on the 5-star alu wheels on my 2000. Might be fun to do with your son. Many colors besides black, too. They SAY it's easy to peel off if you change your mind but I've heard it can be a bit tedious.
OK sales pitch over - I'm not saying it as nice as a good set of wheels but it does the job and has held up for me.

Used Hyper Dip

Just wanted to follow up on this. we ended up getting the Hyper Dip from DipYourCar.com, and did the wheels and the rear emblems. Check out my album below (Some Pics) it was really easy, and looks great. We ended up taking the wheels off to do it. We will see how long it lasts!
