Fluid Change Questions *HIGH MILEAGE*
Hey Folks, so I've gone through a lot of vehicles in my years and never really had most long enough for various fluid changes (except like coolant and oil)
My 96 SR5 Auto has 328k on it and I've owned it for the last like 30k miles....So far I've only done oil changes, coolant, brake and power steering. Biggest question is should I be doing (and how often) fluid changes on things like the differential, transmission, n things of that nature? Since I'm the 3rd owner I have zero idea if/when any of that ever got done so i'd love to hear some feedback. |
Since you don't know the history and you are already in the mileage window for differential and transfer case fluids since you picked it up, I would change those out.
and... since you don't know the history, and you have a senior citizen on your hands, changing tranny fluid is a dicey proposition. I might be worth taking a sample to assess condition but if it hasn't been changed in a long time or at all, changing it now could cause problems. |

I believe with Toyota's older models you could extend with the fluid change compared with new ones. I guess due to the materials and how it was engineered. I suggest that you stick with 30miles
