Knock from dash or engine bay
Hi all
Dropped my car off yesterday to get detailed. I get it back and have a mystery knock from somewhere front left it sounds like. Somewhere under dash/pedals or the engine bay.
It doesn’t seem to be consistent (doesn’t start till car starts moving but doesn’t get louder or quieter depending on speed/acceleration). It also doesn’t consistently happen with accel, it doesn’t seem to have a rhythm to it.
It doesn’t sound like it’s serious or an “oh crap” noise but definitely annoying. I’ve taken a look but hard to locate as it only does this when car is moving. Link to YouTube of the noise.

I can post another video if needed. Any ideas?

I have the same annoying sound knocking. Driving me crazy. I slammed my tilt steering all the way forward to try to get rid of it and busted my tilt steering lock mechanism and it is still knocking.

Sounds more like a cable. I don’t think it’s a piece that’s moving or rotating

Yep like a clip busted for the E brake or hood release and it’s slapping behind the dash

Hi GAsr5,
Before I'd waste any "Diagnostic labor time costs", I'd remove the "Knee Bolster panel (2 10mm bolts), look under the dash and feel around for a loose trim-panel/clips/cables/wires, and find the culprit myself; at least it's something simple... "This Time" LOL!
~rig~ Best to you! :usa2:

Update: fixed the issue. One of the plastic pics holding the heat shield in the wheel well on driver side had come out and was knocking against the metal. Finally was able to locate it. That was only area I hadn’t looked at yet

I think I have the same knock, but to me, it sounds like push rod tappets in the engine. Yes, I'm showing my age and I know we have twin overhead cams, but it sounds just like those tappets in my '77 CJ7 Jeep. I'll check my driver's side wheel well tomorrow morning. Thanks for the update GAsr5.
