4lo not engaging
I have a 2006 V8 Sport and...
About a month ago, we got just about two feet of snow here in the DC area. I took the 4Runner out to play in it and noticed that I could not get it into 4lo. I did a search on here and I was doing everything right....neutral, rolled forward a bit and nothing. It just kept beeping. Since my truck is still under the factory powertrain warranty, I took it into the stealership. Well, after a week of working on it (or so they say), they have determined that the neutral safety switch is bad and the transfer case does not recognize the truck is in neutral so it won't shift into 4lo. Since this is an electrical problem, it is not covered under the powertrain warranty and they want $600 to fix it. No thanks. I have never needed 4lo but I want it to work. It is not worth the money to pay to fix it. Once it warms up, I will be replacing the switch on my own.
It is a V8 so it is full time 4WD. Even in 2 feet of snow, I didn't need to lock the differential so I doubt I would ever need 4lo.
Has anyone had a similar problem or heard the same thing from the dealer? Any guidance on where the neutral safety switch is located? Does anyone know how labor intensive this job is?
Thanks. Ryan
