Moab 4/17/10
 

I finally got around to uploading some pics from our Moab trip last weekend. It was my wife and I's first time to Moab so we squeezed a lot of stuff (mountain biking, hiking, 4-wheel'n, site seeing, etc.) into a 3-day stay. Below are some pics from 4-wheel'n on Saturday.

We started out doing Onion Creek. It's a fairly easy trail but very scenic going up the canon. There are several water crossings that make it a fun, quick trail.

Top of the World
 

After a quick run up Onion Creek, we headed to Top of the World. This trail is rated difficult in the Charles Wells' Funtrek 4-wheel drive guide to Moab and I found out why when we were approaching the top. The last mile of the trail gets pretty nasty. It's steep and rocky with lots of shelves and no easy bypasses. Considering it was just my wife and I (and not many other people out on the trail) we decided to park my 4Runner on a little off-shoot and hike the last mile.

"I eat differentials and transfer cases, then I wash it down with a nice, warm quart of 80W-90 gear oil! Nom, nom, nom..."

Views from Top of the World
 

This made the trip all worth it. The views from Top of the World were among the most amazing views I have seen my entire life. It's a complete 360° panoramic view with the Colorado River to the North and the West, the snow-capped La Sal Mountains to the South, Fischer Towers and Onion Creek below, and Colorado to the East. The pictures do the view no justice, but I'll let them speak for themselves....

There was a giant, 2 foot wide crack at the top where you could look down several hundred feet. I took this picture with a foot on either side of the crack....

This was a great first trip to Moab! I'm already stoked to get back there and do some more 4-wheel'n!

Nice pics! I've been to Moab a few time, really beautiful scenery in that part of the world and can't wait to go back.

Good stuff, man :bigok: . The traffic was kind of nuts on the main street.



I was there the same weekend but I just ran Hurrah Pass and Chicken Corners.

Yeah, I saw a lot of Jeeps without a spec of dust or mud on them. :p

I was keeping my eyes open for some lifted 4Runners, but didn't see many. Most of the 4Runners I saw were stock 4th gens with bike rack on them and hippies in them. :lmao:

Alot of the modified toyota's I saw where off the main stretch, not wanting to put the jeeps to shame is my guess. :biggrin2:

The two times I went into the grocery store you almost get run over by them.

Moab
 

Hey I'm taking my 4th gen to Moab this week with my bike rack and wait wha...

Don't get me wrong, I was rock'n the bike rack, too. :biggrin2: Just would have been nice to see more 4Runners on the trail, that's all. There is so much to do in Moab and it's allllllllll good. I can't wait to go back!

Sorry if I was misleading about top of the world, when we were there I didn't even know that last ledge was there, everything was covered in snow; but Im pretty bummed I didn't get to enjoy that view from the top that you did.

We should organize a trip out to moab in the fall to run some moderate trails with some CO guys. I can't wait to get back out there...:party:

For sure! I know the guys from Co4Lo and RM-4wd would be up for that. I probably would have been more courageous had I had another truck or two with me. Top of the World was a great trail, just a little too hairy for me at the top. The hike was well worth it at the end, though!

When I did the White Rim Trail there in March I didn't see a single Jeep on the trail besides my dads. :ybrick: Downtown was packed though. :)

In addition to my 3rd gen I did see a 4th gen and a brand new 5th gen. Looked straight off the lot, still had the sticker plates.

Yeah, I made the comment to my wife that all of the Jeeps were very clean and that they probably just tow them into Moab so they can cruise Main Street. :p
