97 SR5 keyless entry programming...i know right?

i have a 97 SR5 with the rs3000 system under the driver seat. i have a key fob, grey with black buttons with the FCC BAB237131-022 id. i have followed the steps in the rs3000 manual. but it does nothing after hitting the button the fob. i can hold down the green button, led on console lights up, hit the fob button and nothing. i've been searching the forums but most everyting is written for the newer 3rd gens with securikey...from what i gathered that's significantly different and that's where oyu have to unlock/lock 5 times.... can someone tell my if i have the right fob and am doing teh right pairing sequence.

this is what i'm doing

To program (add) a remote control to the system:

1: Insert the key into the ignition switch and turn it to on.

2: Press and hold the ECU's programming switch for 3 seconds. The status monitors LED turns on for 5 seconds.
***You must perform the next step within 5 seconds***
3: Press and release a remote controls top or bottom button. Either button on your remote control can be programmed to operate the RS3000. The status monitors LED turns off. The piezo chirper chirps once. The exterior lights flash once.

4: Turn off the ignition. The ECU will now operate with the remote control just programmed.

Note: The factory preset operation is for the top button on both remote controls to operate your system; the bottom button is not programmed. To prevent accidental erasure of a remote controls code, we recommend that you program all your remote controls at the same time.

My 97 limited has a black fob. I think the grey was for later years.

just for anyone searching in the future, the black fob worked following the exact instructions in the first post.

i have this same remote. what sucks is i bought the denso fob remote which i think was for the last 3rd gens.. 160 plus tax a pop. the tech came out and looked at me like a fool... i told him that's what the parts guy told me to buy...(I was so excited that i was going to get a auto button for my rear window) but after waiting an hour in the back where the employees order there parts.. they handed me a ugly looking gray non label button remote it ruined my day so bad i decided to put the denso remote in my pocket when the counter guy turned around.. dude was a **** anyway.. lol... but all in all they installed it for another 60 bucks :redbrick: one thing i don't like about it is that only the top button works.. i was like wtf is the point of it having two buttons for ?? do you guys happen to know if i can make both of them work like having a actual lock button and unlock button?

the fcc id: BaB237131-056

if anybody is interested i have that 3 button denso fob remote for sale.. just shoot me a pm with a reasonable price..

Hey guys. I have a 97 sr5 that has the rs3000 i didnt get a fob with it but i also have a 99 sr5 that is for parts it has the good fob with the window roll down. I was wondering if i could swap something from the 99 so i could use that fob on my 97. Thanks in advance

I don't think the '97 has the window down function. That second button is for programming a second 4runner.

Still new to the 4runners. Learned alot about hondas owning a couple and learning what parts are interchangeable. Hoping the keyless unit would be able to be plugged in to my 97 from the 99 without too much trouble if so that would rock if not guess i will be ordering a couple new key fobs i miss having keyless entry
