How did you get your 4runner

Im 18 so i had to bust my balls to pay up the 4500 for my 4runner, so im just wondering How did people get their 4runner?

Clemsonfan15 09-18-2010 06:19 PM

Parents got it for me.

It would take me a really long time to pay for it.

squidsk8 09-18-2010 06:53 PM

xskydivingdudex 09-18-2010 07:59 PM

snhrph 09-18-2010 08:30 PM

I bought a GX470 for my wife to replace the Jeep GC (grand crap) and loved it so much that wanted one for myself. But I could not justify have two $50000+ trucks, so I bought the 4Runner!!! I actually like the T4R better than GX :)

do you like the 4th gen better?

Maritimer 09-18-2010 08:39 PM

I paid cash for it with money my wife saved when I worked in Korea. I think of repairs and maintenance as my car payments.

lol i would just put some Icelandic 50 inch tire and float my runner

4-Ripcord 09-18-2010 11:37 PM

When I got my 2001 taco DC prerunner a few years back, my dad and I split 50/50 ($6.5k each). Then I sold that dang 2wd and got my 4runner for almost exactly what I sold the Tacoma for.

I have since payed back the $6.5k in full.

SCRunner12 09-18-2010 11:38 PM

My first t4r an 87 was given to me by my parents as my first car. It was a piece, but I wouldn't want anything different. My current 95 I just bought after driving a corolla all through college. I'm looking to sell mine soon and by a 3rd gen though. I won't buy a different SUV unless it's a Sequoia.

"Kids", now remember... someday you will (hopefully) grow up. You may be in a position where mommy and daddy aren't the source anymore....

Now... "Get a Job!" (In my best R. Lee Ermey impersonation.)

Uneek 09-19-2010 09:07 PM

Bought it myself.

brian2sun 09-20-2010 11:20 PM

Bought it myself in '01 after my old 3.slow 4runner threw a rod on the freeway. I made a nice smokescreen for the cars behind me and almost made one of them crash! You guys are lucky that your parents bought you a car, I worked at an amusement park from 14-16 to save up for my 1st truck - an '86 ext. cab Yota pickup.

yeah but it makes you appreciate it so much more, like its a part of you.

Fuzzylogic 09-20-2010 11:36 PM

I don't like the GX's rear door (side opener). I much prefer the 4runner's rear hatch. It is way more useful. I have no idea why they designed the GX hatch as a side opening door. It makes no sense.

I was tail gaiting at a football game last week and parked near a GX. The owner was commenting how much better he thought my configuration was as well.

blcktpgsr 09-20-2010 11:39 PM

Sold my 900cc bike for $6000, my modded 92 integra for $5000 and funded the remaining $500..I just had to have her I said!

Sama 09-21-2010 04:15 PM

My parents never bought me a car...too busy spending their money on the 4 cars they bought for themselves and my 2 brothers, I suppose. :violin: My husband bought mine for me after I paid for his flight training, and I am eternally grateful. :bravo:

TFJ-4runner 09-22-2010 12:38 AM

I've bought all my cars first 4runner was a 94 got it in 05. Flew from GA to VA to buy my current 96. I feel fortunate looking back on everything I've done to get to this point. Certainly appreciate the vehicle more.

Hayden 09-23-2010 12:08 AM

Parents bought me my first car when I was 15 - 1996 Hellrot 328i. Love that car.

Then yesterday my dad bought me my 4runner since my sister needs the bimmer and I wanted a 4x4 for our new Colorado house. Win.

Spoiled rotten but I appreciate the hell out of everything I get.

96743runner 10-02-2010 05:53 AM

Didn't have to pay for it directly, but I got it after many years of hard work on our family vegetable farm. All the mods/add-ons were bought with my money though. lol they think modding it is a waste of money :moping:

Maritimer 10-02-2010 07:33 AM

Man, I grew up with no car in the family--my parents didn't have one and neither did I, obviously. I didn't get my license and my first car until last year when I moved back from Korea after 8 years. Learned to drive in a CR-V and then bought my 4Runner. I have to take care of my baby because I'm not getting another car until I have the cash to pay for a new one. Don't get gifts and won't take out loans.

034RUNNER 10-26-2010 05:18 PM

Went 50/50 because I still had my z28 to sell and that wasn't working out with CT winters.

StreetKill831 10-26-2010 07:39 PM

Dad paid for it up front for 5k for us to share but I'm selfish and wanted it all to myself so a week later I bought it from him :biggrin2:

So he went and bought an '05. His is faster, but mine is sexier(IMHO), more capable, and cost me less than half as much. I'm working my way up to the cost of his with Mods though.. so worth it!

Cubslover 10-26-2010 07:53 PM

Damn, my parents never bought me a vehicle.

StreetKill831 10-27-2010 04:05 PM

I own two T4Rs, both I purchased

thorridder 11-08-2010 01:46 AM

my dad got it to replace the 87 land cruiser wrencked then got a tundra so i got the runner and love it most of the 3 :D

the_josh 11-09-2010 01:55 AM

Sold my 95' celica gt to get the 4runner then shortly after sold the 69' chevelle

ChildrenOfBodom 12-06-2010 10:33 PM

Dad gave me his old 87 Mercedes when I turned 16. I crashed it, fixed it, sold it for $4000. Saved up the rest from Christmas money and working at In-N-Out, bought my destroyed 4Runner for $5500 5 days after I turned 17.

It's been a love affair ever since. I still remember when I bought a window motor on Valentines Day instead of a gift for my ex, car deserved it more lol

yes we broke up, wasn't ready to take on more than my precious 4Runner :P

runn4it 01-11-2011 07:30 PM

I sold my lifted Ford Ranger sitting on 35's and bought a corolla because I needed something with great gas mileage(74 mile a day commute at the time). When my wife and I finally moved closer to our jobs in town I was longing for a truck to go wheeling again. My wife suggested I just drive the corolla and enjoy having to fill up only twice a month. Crazy turn of events...I was rear-ended one day on my way to work and they ended up writing the car off. Insurance cut me a check and I immediately went shopping for a Tacoma(always secretly loved the Toyota's more than my Ford). I came across a scREAming deal on a 4runner and the rest is history. I've been starting all over with modding this new 4x4 and can't seem to stop!

andrea rose 07-17-2011 09:59 PM

I got mine as my first car in 2005 it was my aunt's ...... :-) for a year or 2 and she harldy used it.. today it has over 117k and runs .... Almost like new. :-)

Recently my car was apparently "stolen" and I needed a new car immediately. So my stepdad and I looked around and I politely (as politely as i could...) Said I only wanted a 4runner. Well, we went to jeep, Honda, Nissan, infiniti, and of course Toyota. We drove the 4runner, fj, Honda pilot, jeep liberty, grand Cherokee, and no nissans because the mileage was AWFUL. Long story short, he didn't end up getting a 4runner :-( BUT 2 weeks later my car was found! It was the happiest day of my life and now I have my baby back and he actually kept the new car and traded his in for a motorcycle. I bet he's mad now that he didn't choose the 4runner!
