A day out at Hungry Valley, Ca
 

After owning my 1st 4x4 for just under a month, I took it out to Hungry Valley with a small group of new friends and enjoyed a great day of trail riding. The weather was perfect! in the low 60's and partly sunny. A little wind kicked up a lot of dust though. Wish the 95' runners had cabin air filters. I'm still coughing up dust. LOL

Anyways, the trails were not that hard. We had a BMW X3 in the group, so that should say a lot about the easy trails. He did park the X3 and rode along when we drove some of the harder trails though. We did take one of the black diamond trails, which, for a first timer was a little scary at times.

Then it was off to the 4X4 practice area. I learned pretty quickly how to get stuck crossing a ditch. Only took me 3 tries to get across.

All in all, I'd say this is a great place to go for someone new to 4 wheeling. There are a few challenges and some amazing views.

Thats great that you went and had a good time. 4X4ing is a great way to meet cool people. Sounds like you are catching the bug fast, will probably see you on the trail one day.

Thanks Driffter! I got a long way to go and a limited budget before I'm able attempt the harder trails. One day, maybe.

Still you would be surprised at what your stock rig can do. Some of more "hardcore" guys don't mind taking it easy and enjoying a day on the trail giving pointers. Most of us just enjoy the time out in the truck.

Well, If you're ever in a "relaxing drive" mood, let me know. Would love to find some more easy/moderate trails to explore.

anyone have a good link to holy jim setting around? i went a while back but only made it about 2 miles in due to crappy tires and that big dip was flooded out too. 2WD was not going to make it.

Went out to holy Jim 2 weekends ago. Right after the rain. It's very bumpy and only about 4 miles in length. I made it through the mud puddle, but had water wash over the hood for a second. I'm thinking about driving along Main Divide rd this Sunday if I can find anyone that wants to go.

Main divide is nice but Wildomar OHV is a lot of fun. It also has toilets in the staging area and on the other side in the camping/ picnic area, so kid and significant other friendly. from OC take 74(Ortega Hwy) towards Lake Elsinore. Turn Right on Main divide Road, just past the Ranger station follow for about 9 miles into Wildomar OHV. The picnic area is nice and has shade trees.

I may have to put off roading on hold for a bit. Having an issue with my power steering. I gotta get that figured out 1st.

Hungry Valley is great, one of my main spots in So Cal.
