Well originally I planned to work on my 7th injector and programming the fuel map, but I got a little sidetracked and took all this stuff off.

Replaced the UCAs with LR UCAs

Still need to make an appointment to get it alligned, unitl then it will sit where it is.
Oh by the way the LBJs and TREs are Tacoma units. So far so good, I think I'm the first one to replace these parts with Tacoma parts.

Thanks to Singtoe for the earlier leg work on comparing parts. The LBJs and TREs look more stout .

Ok so a little background my lower ball joints were the original ones with 156k on them. No vibration in the wheel, but with a 2” BL and a 3” suspension lift, figured better safe than sorry. Thought I’d take a chance on the Tacoma parts as a guinea pig, since this site has given me so much from all the members that have done the DIY threads.
Used a pickle fork to break the taper on the lower and upper ball joints since no one local had the “hinged tool” I’d seen online. Since I was replacing all the joints I had to separate, I wasn’t too worried, but those pickle forks can really tear up the rubber boots. If doing it again I’d order this tool and feel much better about it:

Pretty funny putting the LR uca on w/o instructions (got the torque specs off the website, but couldn’t find any install info). First side took 4 times longer than the second.
The tie rod ends are the same length as the 4runner units so after installing counting back the rotations the measured distances were the same.
Had to make a couple trips back to Sears for snap ring pliers, 32mm ½ socket and a 27mm box wrench.

Nice, looks very similar to what I will be doing at some point. Glad to see someone trying out the tacoma LBJ's and TRE's. Too bad I ordered mine a while ago, so I got the 4runner versions.

What year Taco did you use as a reference?

Did you use Tacoma parts for sh!ts and giggles or was there a method behind the madness? Doesn't seem like Tacoma parts are any more durable than our 4runner counterparts.

2000, but if I remember correctly (not likely) 95.5-2000 are the same.

Basically the LBJs & TREs are a little more stout, Singtoe did the initial research on the parts you can look up his thread and the debate
