Wondering if someone would be will to check out a truck for me?

It's at 6430 240th Street SE, Woodinville, WA 98072
I'd be willing to compensate you for your time! I'm in Ohio so it's pretty inconvienient for my to fly out there and inspect it.
I'm mainly looking for the obvious items, crash damage, rust, panel VIN matches, any visual problems that can be found.
Anyone be will to spend a little time and make a few bucks?

Can't help you but was wondering, I know it is very low mileage T4R but do you really need to go that far afield to find a nice T4R? I found a 1997 cream puff, garaged every night, regular service, in my home town the same day I started looking. IMO a 10 year old vehicle with only 14k miles may suffer from deterioration due to lack of use.

some how these guys always seam to find 3rd gen 4runner with unheard of low miles... it makes me wonder if they are just rolling back the odometer. and for $20k its a joke, you could buy a nice 4th gen for that price. there is nothing special about that rig. it isnt a 5spd, it doesnt have the locker. as stated above i would wonder about the condition of other things like seals and hoses as well as fluids. the fact that there is rust on the tow hitch and that its been repainted makes me think this is a truck that they bought at auction and rolled back the odometer and cleaned up, or fixed. id pass for that price you could have two nice 3rd gens or one epicly custom set up back country/expedition runner.
hell it doesnt even have the factory projector fog lights, or the rear cargo cover. its not worth it man sorry

Thanks for the input guys. It's a bit of a different situation. My wife has had a 98 since she started driving, it only has 100k but is getting rusty. She has driven all the new trucks out there and doesnt really like any of them more than hers. Including the new 4runner and the FJs. She wants it to be as new as possible since she will keep it forever and wants it to be an upgrade from what she currently has.
I looked at the history of that truck and it's been drive 1-2k miles a year, consistently. The little spot of rust on the hitch was not appealing, how can you tell it's been repainted? Just the hitch?
If I could find somewhatlow mileage ones around here thatwould be great, but I cant find anything else near with under 100k, and pertty much all are rusty. i really need to find a nice southwestern truck.

the sticker above the 2" receiver is covered, you can see its outline and they painted over the rust in that spot, on top, then down below where the sticker is(was) and where the 2" receiver comes out, there is rust along that weld, that they tryed to paint over... the res circle are of the clearly rusted areas the green is of the sticker they painted over and the yellow are of areas that also have been painted, the trailer light plug in has the same texture and color as the tow bar, its not steel like the tow bar, its just a rubber cap, and the lower safety chain loops are smooth from the factory and these are textured. this thing has been repainted, to cover lots of rust in my guess, i bet if you look under it the spare wheel will be rusted like crazy along with rust all over the frame...

Your wife can be happy with a different vehicle than a 3rd gen 4runner. If you love your current ride, then you are never going to like something different more, but in a very short period of time driving something new, that will change.

Seriously, if you buy that, I think you will set the record for the most money spent of a 3rd gen 4runner in the last 8 years. That is a terrible price for a stock vehicle.

Trust me, a newer vehicle will have a better ride, and she will learn to love it more than her 4runner. Don't spend that much...

You need to have them send pictures of the undercarriage and engine bay. If they look fine I would have the local dealer do an inspection. I understand why you want the third gen and one day I might be looking for a mint one like you.

If you REALLY want me to go there and check it out for you, I will. But those guys are total sleazeballs and 90% of their Runners are from NYC (or NY in general), so they're beat on and rusty.

14k original miles...sounds crazy sketchy man. Totally agree with the others on this one. just keep looking and be patient man.

alexchannell 10-07-2011 06:46 AM

Thanks for all the input guys! Will be passing on this one.

She does have her heart set on the 3rd gens though. I have a 4th that she has driven many times and she just doesn't like it. We test drove the FJ, Xterra and 4runner. She wants toyota due to the reliability, doesn't like the new 4runner because it is significantly bigger and has worse visability. She doesn't like the visibility on the FJ either. It's looking like I will end up with a new FJ for daily/long trips and she will have the 3rd gen for in town driving.

How badly is your wife 98 rusting out?

It's not horrible from a visual perspective, but there is flaking on the rear portion of the frame. Then again a Taco I had, the frame rusted from the inside out, so it always could be worse that what is visible. The body panels don't have any visible rust but in the corners the discoloration is beginning.

sal6430 10-07-2011 11:05 AM

Myself I would just clean it and treat it and protect, and et another 200+ miles more out of her!

the great him 10-07-2011 11:33 AM

have you looked at the newer toyota highlanders? they are nice rigs, my aunt has one and i really like it for a everyday suv. full time awd, big enough to haul kids and grocerys, small enough to park in the city, does well in the snow and ice, and good visibility ant its a toyota so yeah....
