Smile 04 4Runner radio play MP3 discs?

I live in the Philly area and radio out here is absolutely atrocious!

I haven't had a chance to check it out yet but does anyone know if the stock radio in the 04 4Runner can play MP3 CD's?

no it doesn't. If you have the factory stereo (non JBL version) then you can buy the Scion head unit and that does play MP3s.

oh btw, welcome to the board.

I'm not sure about the different encoding technologies, or whatever MP3 lingo there is, but I have a 2004 factory unit and it plays CD's I've burned from Itunes without a problem.

Its easy to convert MP3s to CDA so that it can play on any CD Player, but not every CD Player can play a CD with MP3s on it.

Hmm, different opinions here ;) I'll give it test and see if it works. Thanks for the info!

No, there really arent different opinions. The stock unit WILL NOT play mp3 discs. But if you burn one with regular CD audio, the hu WILL play it. Do the Scion swap, its easy and very worth it.

Plus the Scion unit sounds about 100 times better than the stock 4Runner headunit. Well worth the swap. But, like they said it doesnt work with the JBL optional radio system.

I have a non JBL single disc in my o4 4runner SR5. When you all refer to the "Scion" head unit are you speaking of any of the Pioneer models that are available in the Scon TC, XB and XA? If so, is all you have to o swap the 4Runner head unit out with the Scion unit? Then you'll be able to have a better head unit and play MP3s! Is this compatible with XM or Sirius?

Yes, the pioneer from any of the scions will swap right in. And yes, it is compatible with XM radio. You can get the hardware to work with the head unit or you can add an aftermarket one easily. Aftermarket is probably cheaper. Ive never priced it tho.
