Give this a try: Drivers seat feels a bit loose but dealership says they can't see anything wrong.

Does your sunroof rattle go away when you have the sunroof in the open position (popped up, not slid open)? If so, then try this:
Open the sunroof all the way (slid open) and wipe out the channel where the seals on your sunroof rest against the paint. Clean it really good. Now wipe down the seal around the sunroof. You can clean the front edge while it's still slid open, but then you'll have to close it and pop it up to get to the sides & rear edge. Anyway, the point is to make sure you wipe it down all the way around. Once you do that, take some silicone spray on a rag and wipe down the entire seal again.
I did that more than a year ago and my rattle never returned. The whole time I thought part of the sunroof linkage or mechanism was causing my rattling noise, and it was just the seal that needed to be cleaned. If your problem is similar, give it a shot...it definitely worked for me.

I tried it last night, and go figure it worked! So far today I haven't heard a sound from the roof at all. I would never have guessed cleaning around the glass and roof would make such a difference. I'll report back with additional results in a few days.

A follow up to my previous post on this. Just using a wet rag did fix the problem for a few weeks but then returned. I recently wiped down the seal around the sunroof again and the rattle again is gone.

Going to give this a try on my wife's '07, probably tomorrow. Seriously annoying.

Just did this to mine today! Worked great! (Although I think the lack of this rattle has made the rattling dome light more evident.)
I ended up using a rubber grommet instead of a nylon spacer. It worked, but I opened and closed the sunroof a few times while watching it. What I noticed was that with each open/close, the spacer would slide just a little bit in the track, and a little bit along the rod. This eventually led to the grommet being pushed toward one end or the other on the rod.
Has anyone else experienced this? Anyone found a good fix?

My sunroof cover is the only thing rattling. When I open and close my door it rattles but it I hold the cover it doesn't make any sounds. Anyone fix this?

This first picture is of the general area. Note that this fix needs to be done to both sides of the vehicle. And even though the sounds you might here sound like they are coming from somewhere else (much like mine did) this is actually where they are originating.

i am trying to view the pictures in your post and for some reason I can't seem to view them. I am getting a rattle in the back of my sunroof mechanism behind the driver just like you did and I want to try to fix it before forking over $2K for a new sunroof to the dealer. Can you repost the pictures? Thanks!

The pictures are there but do not show with IE. Use another browser like Firefox.

So, I guess I've got the same rattle and I suspect mine might be leaking as well. I get wind noise and when driving in a good downpoor I can see it dripping off the edge to... well... I don't even want to know where.
Is their a more current thread on this? I have an '07 and I've only had the dealer give me some line that they had to replace the glass and I would have to spend $$$. I'm pretty mechanically inclined and have machining tools to make stuff if needed. Will it come down to that? Anyone have luck with Toyota fessing up and taking care of out of warranty issues like this one?
HELP! Anyone!

Will be giving this a shot. I can physically move the rear of the sunroof up when it is closed and my rattle stops so it could be this bar flexing too much not giving the necessary load to make the sunroof fit tight like its supposed too.

X2^ Mine also move up and down and I can replicate the rattle by moving it myself I can also stop the rattle by just lightly pushing up on it. I got a video I will post on YouTube.
Has anyone else tried the zip cable method for this fix?

Tips and problems
I just tried this on my 2007 4Runner Sport. For those that have this vehicle, here are a few things that might help:
1) If you have access to a pet store, buy the silicon tubing that they use for air pumps. The black tubing costs about $3 and snaps around the little bars perfectly.
2) I used graphite grease on mine.
Although the tubing fits perfectly, the rattle is still there on my vehicle. I'm going to try to wipe down the seal.

After years of this rattle, I have finally had enough. I have been driving on bumpy roads lately which has magnified the noise. I first tried the washer/spacer on the guiderail. I then tried cleaning and greasing, but it is still there. Today I think I finally isolated the area. As you can see in the pic, there is a rivet that runs through these pieces. When I press on it I can hear a faint noise that sounds like the rattle. Also when driving, I can press on it and the rattle will stop. Any ideas on how to fix it?

Would you mind posting a picture showing the end result to compare to the picture above please?
