Stange clunking noise if truck rolls back PLEASE HELP

:awais: Here is what is happening...

There is a bump when going into my garage, and if you are going really slow, you will hit the bump with the front tires, and roll back a few inches. If this happens, a loud clunk (it almost sounds like a spring popping and hitting metal) comes from underneath the front of the vehicle.

I have a 2004 SR5.V8.4x4

Any ideas??? Should I be worried???

Would this still be under warranty?

THANKS

This could be the Hill Start Assist control which is activated when the truck starts to roll back

Definitely the HAC, I have to LMAO, cause when that first happened to me, I thought - damn, wtf. You should see the indicator flash on the tach area indicating that you activated it when you vehicle started to roll backwards while in drive.

Yep, sound like your Hill Assist Control...not sure how it works, but it does sounds awful. I think it works by applying the brakes.

Seems like it would be less intrusive (and hassle) if they just applied some throttle to prevent roll back.

It will be interesting to see what HAC will be like once I drive to (in) the city...san francisco...they got some mean hills over there...

The Hill Assist Control is described in the manual. Take a look at it so you can better see how it works.

Thanks everyone!!!

I will try it again tonight and see if the HAC light comes on.

Guess I should read the manual!
