Transmission Shifts after coasting

I have a problem on my 2004 Limited V-6. If I accelerate normally, the transmission shifts smoothly. However, if I am in traffic and going 30 mph and take my foot off the gas until I slow down to about 10-15 mph, I feel a jerk or hard shift when I step on the gas again. It feels like play in the gear train. It doesn't happen all the time. I don't remember this when test driving a different 4Runner before buying.

I had the dealer check it at the 5K oil change, but of course, the dealer "could not duplicate the problem". Anyone else have the same condition or do they all do that? I have tried adjusting my driving to accommodate it, but I have never had a car do this.

This is normal for me. It's downshifting to accelerate. It's actually smoother than my previous ride. I notice it most when I'm coming out of coasting around corners. Just don't accelerate as hard (ie. don't go wide open; you'll get better mileage too!)

That normal dude, just lay off the throttle when you are going that slow... accelerate gently ....

I have the 5 speed.

Mine will clunk if I push the pedal somewhere between agressively and gentlely.

After coasting or braking, I hit the gas, it begins a downshift, decides to downshift to an even lower gear, clunk.

The final downshift is smooth, the first one clunks.

You'll also have the problem in parking lots with speed bumps.

You approach the speed bump at 25mph, apply your brakes, coast over the bump, apply the gas and the engine/tranny hunts for a gear.

It is normal, my 3rd generation tranny did the same thing. It is very annoying, but normal.
