Lost the keys with the security chips. Dealer states I need a new ECU to have a key cut that will work with the ignition security feature. Do I really need to spend 1400 on an ECU?
Update. I did contact some local locksmiths and it turns out that they cannot flash the ecu's produced before the year 2001. Toyota realized this is an issue and have offered a one time free ecu replacement for those who have lost all of their keys. To get the ecu you have to call the 1800 toyota number and give them your vin number and the local T dealer you want them to send it too. The dealer will then install it and cut you some keys. Total out of pocket is like 3 bills for tow, work and keys. If you have a 2001+ then you are in luck you can have to ecu flashed for 90 and keys made for 45 by the locals. Peace out cub scouts.
