I'm having the same issues with the lights. CEL and VSC lights came on for about 4 days. Went away from a week but they're all back again. Removed the battery and tightened battery etc but that only got rid of the CEL. Will be taking in to shop soon

This seems like a never ending issue. Is there a fuse I can pull out and not stare at these lights?

Not sure if this got lost. replace the gas cap with a new OEM. disconnect and reconnect the battery and try it. Worked for me.

its a bit early for xmas lights

2005 4.0 5spd auto, New used car lot purchase 9/8/18 195k

I was driving in the rain this morning 60mph. CEL came on plus TC & the other two below it VSC trac & Vsc off , the car continued to drive AOK. Fault code stored for this was P0137 which looks like a 02 sensor.
New sensor on order.

VSC, TRAC, and Check engine lights on-dash-lights-jpg

plus the TPS light since yesterday, thats a separate issue

Just for reference I also have the transmission Judder.

anyone want to throw any more crap my way? , I will post up any result with the fairy lights.

Had P0137 O2Sensor Circuit Low Voltage (Bank #1 Sensor #2).

swapped out this with a bosch sensor. P0137 gone.
now have P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank #1).
I ordered 2 rear Denso 02 sensors on 234-4260 + 234-4261 (small 3/4" difference in wire lengths only) and will try them, at the same as having the exhaust checked for leaks.

Do I have a problem?

Guys I think I have the opposite problem than most people are experiencing with the VSC system. I have no skid warning, VSC Trac, or VSC off indicator lights come on with the key in the on position. They have never come on since I have had the 4runner. I do get the ABS light with the key on though. When I lock the center differential the VSC does not show to be turned off and taking corners fast on purpose never shows any vsc kicking in. The owner's manual states that these lights should turn on for a few seconds with the key in the on position. What's going on here? 2004 Limited 4wd V8

Also, after unplugging the abs and vsc harnesses from under the hood, the vsc trac, trac off, and skid lights still did not come on.

I woke up to these same 3 lights on a couple days after I got my 2004. Found this thread and drove down to Autozone to get any codes read. It came back as a p0306 - misfire in cylinder.

Talked to my mechanic and he asked me if I had left the gas cap loose at any time. I had only filled up once since I bought it, but I had left it running while pumping ithe gas. Yes, I'm a moron.

We re-tightened the cap, he cleared the code and the lighs have not come back on as of 400 miles since. I still have no idea what the problem was, but it's not throwing any codes and running like a champ, so I'm just going to keep my fingers crossed.

Aliens from Alpha Centauri.

Actually just the pressure difference sets the light on . As noted if it happens again, get a new OEM cap, disconnect the battery, put the new cap on and clean the area around the caps seating reconnect the battery and should be ok. That's what many of us did and it has worked.

rear Denso sensors did not change squat, Still getting the P0420 .

went to Advance auto parts, brought a pair of 18mm non spark plug fouler fittings $5 to mount the rear 02 sensor in, wiped codes and they have not come back.
I just wanted the abs and vsc & CEL to be OK.

I need check exhaust system for leaks now.

Smile 2005 4Runner TRAC & Check Engine Light

Wow.. Reading all the posts on this issue.. I was able to fix my 4runner rather quickly!! I can cancel my appointment at Toyota... I had never seen this issue on my vehicle... kinda panicked and flipped into the service bay.. made an appt.. came home did some reading, I did top off the gas tank yesterday.. today when firin it up I saw those lights.. YAY! problem solved and it didn't cost me a dime.. unscrewed the gas cap.. put it back on tight.. unplugged the positive cable from the battery waited 5 minutes & put it back on.. fired up the car and Bam no more lights and oddly seems to run a lil smoother.. hmmm.. very cool.. Thank you Everyone who posted on this, what seems to be a frequent issue with alot of folks..

I let my son use the car and he put gas in and lost the cap. When I went to drive it, all three lights came on. Low and behold it was just the cap. I'm not saying that this could be the situation for everyone, but it was for me. Crazy how a gas cap could do this. I was freaked out!!

That happened to me too. Checking the codes at autozone (or similar) can be a big help.

Thumbs up

I had the dreaded CEL and both trac lights turn on about 6 days ago, bought a new OEM gas cap and it went away immediately.
