Creaking sound from rear passenger-side wheel area

Just got my 05 SE a month ago ... barely have 1000 miles on it. I have noticed that whenever I am going over a bump (like the lip I have to travel over to get into my driveway) or do anything that causes the rear-end to tweak ever-so-slightly, I get a loud creaking sound out of the rear passenger-side wheel area of my vehicle. This only happens on the one side, which is why I am assuming there may be a problem.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? I am going to get an appointment to have it checked out in a few days. I was just wondering if this happens to be a common thing or not.

I had the same as have others. Place a piece of electrical tape over the metal part of the rear seat latch mechanisim and it will likely go away.

The rear seat latch? .... Hmm ... Interesting .... never thought it could be that. Sounds about right as far as the location goes though. I will definitely give it a try. Thanks for the info.

I have had the "squeek" also from the rear passenger side. The first time I had it I was making a left turn at 20-25 mph. I heard a sort of pop/squeek noise. When I got out to check it I could push up and down on the rear bumper and I could hear a metal sounding creek noise from the rear tire.

When I took it into the dealership last week for a shake (which ended up being front warped rotors) they couldn't hear or find any problem in the rear.

I don't hear it now, but it still worries me. The Runner shoudn't be doing that or have warped rotors at 15,000 miles

In your sport you also have a storage compartment in the rear cargo area passenger side. Make sure nothing in there is making the noice like the little box with the hitch receiver.

I also have the same problem on my 05 4Runner, the noise seems to be coming from the rear passenger side wheel.

I have scheduled an appointment with the Dealer and will post the results as soon as possible.

Based on history the dealer won't do much to solve this type of issue. Even if you can reproduce the noice for the dealer they will typically give back the car saying it is fixed or we couldn't find anything wrong and the noice remains. The best thing to do is go to a empty parking lot with speed bumps are other rough surface that will cause the nioce and sit near the problem area with somone else driving to at least isolate the general location. After that start with trail and error easist to worst location to get to in solving the problem. Pain in the a## but only way I found to resolve it.

Smile

I took my car in to the dealer and they fixed the problem, according to them it was a "Right Rear seat lack of insulation".

We drove around the parking lot with the Service Tech and as he heard the noise he was able to point it out.

Could you please add some more details as to the fix and what the dealership did to resolve the creaking sound issue? I had to add electrical tape but that to me seems like a work around rather then a fix. Thanks ...

I have an '05 V8 LTD with about 2500 mi on it and I just started hearing a creaking/squeaking noise coming from the right rear pass area.
I don't have any plans to bring it in yet, as I just heard it for the first time today.
Keep us posted.

I just got home today with my 06' Sport 4X4 V8 and already have the rear passenger noise. Has anyone found the fix yet? Is the fix something I can do without going to the dealer?

I think my running board creaks when cold. I'm too lazy to take is off and clean the contact points, lube any bushings.

I agree with bill. Greasing the rear seat latches helped stop the creaking. Toyota should of done this from factory before shipping.

Have this problem with my 06 Limited V8, and have had it since mile 3. Took it to the dealership and they put some silicone under the door moulding ( i knew that was not the problem, and it still creaks ). So silicone on the rear seat latch will work? Off to give it a try.

Attached is a pic of the car should anyone want to see her.

Thx

Brad
