Sounds like something I should get done; called my dealer, they said they'd look into it (since my rig's there to have the fuel injector's replaced anyway).
What all does it entail? Since it's a TSB, I shouldn't have to pay for it, right?
Are you sure that it is always on with the 2005's? I have a 2005 and I could have sworn that it turned on by itself when I sent under a bridge the other day. It took a second to turn on and there was a slight click sound...hmmm, I will have to keep an eye out for this. The reason I say this is that my radio would always be lit up too then but it isn't. Can anyone else confirm this?

According to my dealer, only for the first 3 years/36000 miles. I'm having it done regardless; I think it looks good, and it's a safety issue (in my mind).
I happen to call Toyota for something else and I did ask them whether TSBs be free after 3yr/36000 miles warranty. He said yes - it is free even after warranty period.

Called Toyota and they said that this particular one isn't covered unless you're within your warranty period. Reason: it's not a safety issue or a hazardous situation. Works for me, but it never hurts to ask.

Thats what you can say to the cope when you get caught going 100mph. "But officer I couln't see my gauges and Toyota told me that it wasn't an safety issue."

Yes, on the '05s the instrument lights are always on.
I think the first year(after redesign) 03's don't have the instrument panel lights on automatically, like the 04-05's. They changed it for the 04's because people complained that they couldn't see the dash speedometer good in the daylight.
Is this really that much of an issue? I live in the Valley of the Sun, and don't seem to have much issue with seeing the gauges. The only thing that bugs me is seeing the trip computer with my sunglasses on - maybe having the lights on would help - I'll have to try it!
