Ripped Leather

On my '04 4runner ltd, the leather on the side of the drivers seat has a small cut in it, anyone else have this? This was also a problem on my '96, but much worse as i never had it repaired. Is it covered under warranty? I have 48,000km, and the rest of the truck is showroom condition.

thanks

Maybe not if it is a cut, if it was a tear it would be a different story.

it looks like a cut, but is a tear. I think it is from getting in and out, cause the leather is creased there. No one else has this problem?

I have the same issue on my 06 Limited. Small 1.5-2" rip on side of drivers seat. I'm 180 lbs, and I don't see how I could have done it myself. Wierd stuff.

IMO This is why I don't like leather. Cloth is more durable. Virtually every leather interior I have seen that is a couple years old looks bad with severe creases and cracks and often times the color of the leather is lost where the creases and cracks appear. This was why I went with the SR5 and not the limited edition. You pay more for leather but yet get less longevity than cloth.

Ditto

I had a tear on the driver side as well. It started to get a bit worse after a year or so I had it repaired when I had my front bumper cover repaired.

It started off as a crease but got worse over the space of a year or so. Probably caused by slipping my 225# butt onto the driver seat everyday. The repair cost $100 and they did a fantastic job. Not noticeable at all. I don't think the side seat trim is leather, but a high grade "imitation" leather (vinyl). Usually only the center sections of the seat and back are leather, along with the front portion of the headrest.

For the record, my 04 Limited has 57,000 miles and aside form this small tear, the leather looks as good as the day I bought the truck. I do clean and condition it several times per year. I had cloth for over 25 years in my vehicles and thought I'd try leather in my 4Runner. I am very glad I did. We use our Runner for camping and many other otudoor activities. I do not have to worry about spills as much and the leather gives a much higher feel of luxury. While not as top grade as Lexus' leather, I think it's a notch above most non-luxury car leather trim. Also, you can usually only have heated seats in leather seating. This is a very nice option for those of us in the northern climates.

I won't be going back to cloth anytime soon.

Are you all not properly conditioning the leather?? That is the only reason, aside from extreme temperatures, that leather should crack...

I condition my leather regularly and I have a .5 inch slit in the middle of my backseat. I baby my truck so this definitely should not have happened. I have the extended warranty, but I strongly doubt Toyota will cover this.

That is disturbing...I would at the very least try to make them pay for it. Even if the warranty, per se, doesn't cover it Toyota should step up and pay for it.

I will keep everybody posted on this. Another disturbing thing is I hardly ever have somebody sitting in the back of my truck.

This happened to my son's Mazda. I had the car many years before him and "no-rips". Guess what? We looked at the rip and it was certainly done by one of his female friends with her cellphone in her back pocket!

Gotta watch out for stuff like that!

The first time I had someone in the riding in the second row after they got out I noticed two creases that were raised ridges. I'm pretty sure it was something in their back pocket as they slid into center spot. This is one of the few things about the 4Runner that has disappointed me.
