'96 Fuel Filter Replacement

Soooo, my SR5 has been feeling sluggish lately despite recent plugs/air filter and a good supply of 93 octane gas.

I decide to replace the fuel filter. Not wanting to wear fuel, I let it sit 24 hours to let any pressure bleed off.

I crack the forward tube and the gas starts flowing. I figured that it would slow down, but, after about 20 minutes, it wasn't slowing down at all.

My Q: how do you change the fuel filter without getting soaked in fuel??!

How long should I let the pressure bleed off before trying again?

If you remove the gas cap the tank will vent to atmosphere and you can change the filter. Some gas will leak out when you first loosen it but I didn't lose much when I changed mine.
