Rear wiper issue

Long time lurked to the site....limited poster.....

My 07 4runner developed an interesting quirk about a month ago. On cold days, the rear wiper comes on and cycles up and down one time when the car is started. It otherwise operates normally. On unseasonably warm days (say above 50) it doesn't happen. Anybody else had a similar issue? This is driving me crazy. I've Cycled the switch on and off multiple times and cannot identify an issue, and it does not appear that anything got down in the switch.

Welcome Jimmy!

I had a similar issue that was eventually traced to my battery (5+ years old).... Replaced the battery and the problem went away.... Also had a possibly related issue with my rear window going down on it's own when parked (very annoying especially when it rained) which replacing the battery also fixed.... Not sure why this worked but it did..... Must be something to do with the relay voltages necessary for reliable operation.....

Very interesting. I'll stop and get the battery checked at one of the local parts places. Definately worth a shot and thanks for the idea!

Good advice. The battery cold crank amps were down in the low 200s, which is about a third of the original spec. The alternator was fine. I replaced the battery yesterday, and the issue had not occured again. I took multiple trips yesterday and a cold early morning trip this AM and no more issue. It is a funny quirk that saved me from needing a jump another day. Thanks for the help!!!!
