Drivers side rear wheel locking up

Hi ,

I have aproblem that I hope someone can help me with.

Yesterday in the snow I was leaving a grocery store and as I pulled out of my parking spot ;it felt as though the breaks where on. Then after a huge crunching lurch I was able to move forward, as I was going my drivers side rear tire locked up and I started to go into circles. So I managed to get out of the way and my wife got out and verified that the tire had indeed locked up. So we decided to try and take the back way home as it seems to only do this after a stop and start. Well on the way home all was fine.

I am wondering if a piece may have broken in my rear differential and is floating around and even now an then gets jammed in between gears, cause the bind up and the crunching. Does this sound possible?

Or could it be a wheel bearing going out.

I recently replace my u joints cause the rear one was falling apart.

I think that wahtever is wrong with the rear end caused the u joint to fail.

I would appreciate any help on this subject and what one might expect to pay to fix it.

Thanks

Could be a leaking rear diff, had this happen to me on my 95, symptoms were almost identical.
