1. Make sure your rear wiper is in the proper neutral position.

2. Try putting your window up.

The dealer told me that if the window is almost up, but not quite all of the way that it won't go down. If it's not all the way up, the defroster won't work and the wiper won't work because the truck thinks that the window is down.

I went and played with the positioning of the wiper, and then used the button to make sure the window was all the way up (which it seemed to be), and now they all work!

Just wanted to let y'all know how to fix this if you ever have this problem.
Awesome! Thanks a million friend. I had the same problem this morning but now it is working fine. I just buttoned down the rear hatch window once and then buttoned it up and everything is working fine.

i experienced this too a few days ago when my wife told me. it didn't work, everything, wiping and water squirting. i just pressed the down read window and all the way up and it worked afterwards. that's really amazing what small things can do. that's well thought of. imagine when your read window is down and you accidentaly squirt a wiper fluid inside and wipe. thank you too!

Greetings from Venezuela. I just bought a 2007 4runner and HAD this problem. Thanks to the guys who take the time to share their experiences on line, this is no longer an issue in my ride.

For some reason the dashboard button was not working, at all. Previous owner changed the battery so I'm assuming that triggered the whole thing. So a few minutes ago, after reading this post, I tried several times with the ignition switch and rear window switch until it finally worked. Up and down all the way and EUREKA!! hahaha... washer wiper and water are working great.

Thanks again.

Hi everyone.... any additional thoughts?

Rear Defrost: Works
Rear Wiper Fluid: Works

Rear Window Control from Dash: Does not work
Rear Wiper Control: Does not work

Turning the key in the back hatch works as well as the key fob. I have put them window up and down several times, but still not resetting anything.

Thoughts or something else I can do? Am I dealer bound?

Thanks!

try this, for wiper make sure its on the cradle correctly, then make sure nothing is stopping the rear window from going all the way up & seating, now hold the window switch inside the vehicle in the up position with the window completely up for 2 to 3 seconds. Then roll it down and hold it for 2 to 3 seconds.

I had the same problem as others here but had to do an additional step to solve it. My 4Runner was a 2007 Limited model.

I made sure the rear wiper was in neutral position and tried pressing on the rear window around the edges to unjam it in case it was blocked by some of the recent snow and ice. But none of this worked. I also checked all the fuses and they were all fine. Then I found the problem:

1) The child safety lock button was depressed on the driver-side door. I must have pressed it by accident. Complicating matters was the fact that when I did it the rear window must have been slightly down and not all the way up. So once the child lock was depressed the car disabled the rear window - thereby I could not raise the window all the way to activate the defrost and wiper. Once I released the child saftey button I was then able to raise the window up - it moved just slightly but was enough to seal thereby re-enabling the defrost and back wiper. So if you get stuck check your child safety lock - that could be it.

Awesome - was afraid I was gonna have to start tracking down fuses, but came here first. This forum rocks! Pressed the "Up" button for the rear window, and it slid up just a tiny bit, but this fixed all my issues - no rear defrost, no rear wiper, and no rear washer fluid. I cycled the rear window down and up a couple times for good measure. Thanks so much - everything works now, and you saved me lots of time and aggravation!

2003 4Runner Limited

Hi everyone....my situation...

Rear Defrost: Works
Rear Wiper Fluid: Works
Rear Wiper Control: Works
Rear Window Control from Dash: Does not work
Rear Window Control with Key: Does not work

Recently disconnected battery and window would work again but the defrost/wiper would not. After re-normalizing the window the defrost/wiper works but not the window. Process is repeatable...

Additionally, when key is in "Acc" location a small click from rear can be heard when pressing rear window control button from dash. Also, not sure "auto up/down" feature has been working at all.

And when window is working a snap can be heard about halfway as window is going down.

Any thoughts?

Thank you.

I searched.....

Ok. So I searched and searched, but have yet to find anyone that mentions any issue like mine. I replaced my stereo in our 2005 SR5. I disconnected the battery as one should when doing this work and when everything was back together everything seemed fine. Well, it snowed. I attempted to use the rear wiper and nothing happened. No defrost, no wiper, no sprayer...... Cracked the rear window and rolled it up and everything worked. Great! Right?

Well, shut the ignition off and went around back to open the tail gate and it won't open. Get back in vehicle and turn it on. Rear wiper doesn't work again. Window rolls up and down fine. Leave ignition on and go around back and the tail gate opens. Defrost works. Sprayer works. Shut ignition off and turn back on....... Nothing works again.

So I search. I notice my auto window isn't auto anymore and I do the auto window reset procedure. Auto window works again, sprayer, wiper and the tail gate opens too. Shut off ignition and turn it back on. NOTHING!

Window works great. But if I shut off the ignition I can't open the tail gate. The key fob doesn't open the window. The lock doesn't actuate. Etc....... Why the hell does this thing reset every time the ignition is turned off? Can anyone please help. This worked flawlessly before the battery disconnect. Is this a ploy by toyota to drum up service just by disconnecting the battery? I've worked on cars for years and I can't figure this ridiculous mess out!
