Rear window, defroster, wiper wont' work? Look here!

For the past two weeks, my rear window wouldn't go down, the rear defroster wouldn't go on, and the rear wiper and fluid wouldn't work. I check all of the fuses but everything looked ok. I took it to the dealership today, and they told me to try two things:

1. Make sure your rear wiper is in the proper neutral position.

2. Try putting your window up.

The dealer told me that if the window is almost up, but not quite all of the way that it won't go down. If it's not all the way up, the defroster won't work and the wiper won't work because the truck thinks that the window is down.

I went and played with the positioning of the wiper, and then used the button to make sure the window was all the way up (which it seemed to be), and now they all work!

Just wanted to let y'all know how to fix this if you ever have this problem.

rear wiper and rear defroster don't work

I tried the trick of putting the window all the way down and then back up and holding it a second.....no luck.

Any other suggestions how to debug this?

Thanks.

You may have to re-initialize the back window. This problem can also happen if you disconnect the battery.

See this thread for how to reset the back window.

rear windshield wiper and defroster not working

I tried the "reinitialization" procedure many times....with ignition in "on" position, with the car running etc etc etc.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work.

Here are my symptoms:

Rear defroster: isn't working....no light on when button pressed.
No rear window wiper or fluid dispensing.

Rear window goes up and down (tho not auto)
Rear hatch does the auto close thing when you get it close.

Any tips or suggestions?

Thanks!

Thanks for that tip! My rear defroster wasn't working. I checked to make sure the rear blade was in its position and played with the rear window, and now it works.

Thank you SOOOO much. I thought it was a fuse, but all fuses were okay. This did the trick. All my defogger, wiper, washer fluid and power window operations work now. Thanks again! The window was slightly open I guess.

Thanks for the post. Your information worked great! I have been traveling for months without the wiper working and did not want to take it to the dealer to be checked out. Glad to know that there is such a simple solution. Great information! Hope it works for others.

Thank you for the tip! I too was checking all the fuses and couldn't figure out the issue. I lowered the window and then raised it back up and everything worked. Thanks again!

I had the same problem, checked all the fuses...then all of sudden today it all works....we got a bunch of snow and i had to brush it off I'm thinking my brushing moved the rear wiper back into the correct spot. Either way it's working that's all that matters.

Wink Release the window safety lock button!!

We had all the symptoms - no rear wiper, defroster, squirter, or window up/down. Thanks to gzkrutoy's simple reminder of releasing the window safety lock button, I got the rear window up the last 1/2" and all other functions work properly.

You guys ROCK!! You started my new year off in a good way. Many thanks!!

KISS! (Keep it simple, stupid)

: )

Smile no rear wiper, washer, defroster in my 4 runner

Thanks for your help! I was completely frustrated after SIX trips to the mechanic, both regular and Toyota, they could not fix the problem. I read this and tried it and so far everything is working! I can't believe it! Thanks so much.

Rear wiper, washer and Defrogger not working

Thanks for the info just installed a new battery and noticed the rear defrogger washer and wiper weren't working . I went nuts checking all the fuses and then saw your post. I raised and lowered the back window all the way up and down and now everything is working fine. Guess it just needs to be reset. I had a problem with the sunroof where the auto open and close featured stoped working and that also had to be reset by opening it all the way and closing it. Little things that drive you crazy with simple fixes if you know them. Thankx
