Vibration when I hit 70 mph and increases some as speed increases ?

Any info? I have a 93 4runner SR5 4x4... The truck seems to drive fine..yet when I get to 70 it will vibrate a good amount and then even more when I get to 80 and so on.. havent taken it to 90 but just wondering what that could be.. Tires maybe? Or Transmission? Thanks for your time.

highway shimmy

I just put a post on this, but I assure you you can usually fix the probelm with either tires, balancing, alignment, brake rotors or all of the above, sometimes it can even be loose tire rod ends, or ball joints.. How may miles are on your 4runner? also did it just show up out of no where, or has it slowly onset? Also is the vibration in the seat and pedals, or in the steering wheel, cause that will seperate it from the back or front. how old are your tires, uneven wear? I had cupping on my old tires that didnt really look that bad to me..but sure enough it caused the wheel to always sit naturally to the right and shake....new tires and bammm no shake or pull...
P.S. as others will tell you, the wheels on 4runners are notorious for being hard to balance, this can sometimes be due to the mechanics lack of knowledge that the toyota wheels are not lug centric but are however hub centric. they are supposed to use a adapter on the machine called a haweka adapter...

Hey thanks captaininsano for the response..Honestly Im new to the truck..Ive had it for about a week and Ive been babying it.. I got it with a coolant leak so I found that was the radiator cap and Thermo. But I never took it past 70 ..yea sounds funny but I didnt and the other day I took it past and started feeling the vibration. .its more in the seat and the shift handle ..somewhat in the pedals..the front tires seem pretty new and the rear are about 40% life left. So im not too sure now my tranny doesnt seem to thump or make any weird noises but I just wonder...im also really delicate when I dont know because Im just getting into trucks and automatics.. ive had stick shift cars my whole life.

Ohh I see..hmm Im not too sure if the guy before me took good care...the truck seems to not have much noises or anything...lil bit of valve clap or sticky lifters but im not sure completely.. like I said pretty new to this and I work alot 2 jobs so im not really time free to sit and work and learn..therefore I decided to check earlier today if Forums were any help.

Shimmy

gotcha
So does the 4runner make any weird noises or shift really hard when speeding up or slowing down at any rate? so far it sounds like a out of balance tire maybe in the rear or could be from a bent rear rim I guess. you'll have to check and see. How about hesitation in shifting? or Downshifting?

captaininsano No..ive been constantly checking to feel any shifts..clunks or hesitation. ..doesnt do any of that..feels pretty smooth through shifting and downshifting..in like transition from 3rd to 4th it doesnt shift til about 4000 rpm though..dont know if thats too normal but it doesnt shift hard at all nice smooth shifts..and if I ever need to give it some power it seems to do its downshift to high rpms pretty smooth...

tires

I had the same problem with my 2000 4Runner Limited, I had a new set of toyo's mounted and balanced and would hit 67 miles an hour and shake like crazy. Took it somewhere else and had them balanced again but same issue. I just had a new set of Firestone Winterforce UV tires installed and had a alignment done as well and it now drives great. Look at your tires first, made a big differance in my case.
