Sunroof Problem ??
My sunroofs built-in air deflector stays in the high position until I reach about 55 MPH and then drops down. Is this normal? I thought that it stays in the down position until 55 and then raises. Which is right?
Also, when it closes it makes a noise starting at about 3 to 4 inches before fully closed. Hard to explain the noise, I guess it's kind of a friction noise and only on the right side.
Is it getting ready to implode?

It goes down at the higher speeds to lessen wind resistence/noise, so yours is right, but I believe this is supposed to happen at 45mph.

The wind guard will lower when you hit approx. 55mph, then raise when you drop below 45 or so. As far as the noises its normal, mine has been making weird noises for about 6 months now but it always closes fine.

OK, thanks.
Sounds like the air deflector is operating normal.
Just started making noises as it closes, I'll have to keep a close eye on it. Hopefully it's not the beginning of the end.

It sounds like it's operating normally. When it raises and lowers, it sounds almost like a CD being changed in a CD player. If the sound is really loud, then you might have a problem.

I only get the noise when it slides forward about the last 3 or 4 inches before it closes, just started making the noise couple weeks ago. Doesn't make any noise when it tilts open or shut.
Just wondering if this is going to be an issue in the near future.

Re:Bad Sunrrof Noises
If it starts making a cracking or crunching noise, the sunroof may not close by itself again.
Mine has been stuck open twice in the past (dealer fixed both times). The only way to get it closed was to drive over 55mph to get the deflector to activate. Then when it drops, I try closing the sunroof with button, and help it forward. Was successful both times in getting it closed.
So far, the last trip to the dealership seems to have fixed the problem.

ya, anything with the last 3-4 inches of closing has to do with the air deflector as it gets shoved down when the window hits that point during the closing process.

So, would it be a problem with the air deflector rather than the sunroof? Or maybe a lack of lubrication?

i would argue the air deflector is part of the sunroof... I will have to take a closer look as to how the sunroof pushes the deflector down (if at all). There's only so much i can figure out because i don't have this problem (yet) on my 06'.
