I suppose he doesn't make much if anything off selling these extended warranties so it probably ranks very low on his priority list. But while waiting I passed by the 3 year mark on the factory warranty, so I guess I won't be having an extended warranty on my 4Runner after all. At least my credit card wasn't charged.
Very odd -- maybe the paperwork was misplaced. I got mine the next day.

Greetings.. new 4runner owner, resulting from my Tacoma's being bought back by Toyota as part of the frame rust program... but I digress.

I'm buying an '06 4Runner to replace the Tacoma, and am considering Toyota's factory backed extended warranty.

On Toyota's web site for this ( http://www.toyotafinancial.com/consu...ProtectionPlan ) it states "Toyota Extra Care used vehicle protection plans are available through your Toyota dealer only at the time you purchase your used vehicle. Please see your dealer for pricing information."

How can this be offered by anyone besides the dealer that i'm purchasing the truck from?

I note that this is an old thread, if this is a result of policy changes, disregard. =)

I am pretty sure this was covered on one of the first few pages of this thread or one of the others.

You will be fine as long as your vehicle is still under the factory warranty.

The second post on this page is a guy (jsgreen) who purchased coverage from Shaun after the factory warranty expired. Itwas more expensive, but he was able to get it.

Maybe give Shaun a call and see what he says?

Don't know if Shaun has a "special way" to get things done, but extended warranties on Toyota used cars are indeed only available at the time the car/truck is purchased.

Always make sure it's a REAL Toyota warranty!

For all those who live in California...

I purchased an extended warranty from Shaun a year or so ago. I had a local tire shop tell me I had a leaky front shock that happens to be part of the X-reas system.

I declined their offer of a repair and took it to a local dealer. They confirmed the problem, looked up my VIN in the computer, covered the repair AND A RENTAL CAR for two days.

Cost for the repair and rental car...about $500.00 bucks!

As I have often stated...the law against buying a warranty from out of state is unenforceable!
