Thats great to hear! It seems like normalizing fixes alot of problems from the heating element to one touch rear , driver's front window, and sunroof roll down functions. Sorry about your eBay troubles. I also noticed, aside from the original 4runner stereo isn't there, on the pictures that it has the back trunk cargo cover, but when you went to pickup the vehicle it was gone.. Do you think the pictures could be of the actual vehicle or did he get them from someone else? Anyways, good luck regarding your fuse problem! The 4Runner should last you many years to come

It's the same vehicle, as evidenced by the round bumper sticker, rear, driver's side. You can see it in my avatar picture. It's also in the listing pictures. I think he just took the pictures and then drug his feet about listing the vehicle, so some time went by before it went on eBay. Perhaps he was having second thoughts, or was struggling to make the payments or something.

Other than the problems I've noted here, it is a great vehicle just barely broken in. And, it drives and feels like it's brand new.

Thanks for the encouragement. I just wish it was Spring so I could move a little faster on all these repairs and get to the upgrades...

Just a quick update for those who may be interested.

I have replaced the incorrectly installed Sienna head unit with one made for the '04 4Runner, purchased on eBay for $100 plus shipping. While doing so, I installed an iPod interface, the TOY/M-LINK1V.2 for 2003 & up, purchased from Discount Car Stereo. The mount was from ProClip. It was an easy install. The iPod sounds great! I opted to forego the on stereo control and display in favor of what I feel is the more elegant solution of using the iPod controls for the iPod. Sound level is at a fixed output from the iPod, so the stereo volume is the only adjustment. I haven't tried it yet, but I assume that to use the multi-CD unit, you just disconnect the iPod and put in CDs.

I had a warm shop with plenty of room to work in, with tree lights on both sides of the vehicle. (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!) Everything went well, except for one thing. I forgot to take my 6 CDs out of the Sienna head unit before removing it. In fact, I didn't think about it until I fired up the new radio to see how it worked. OH WELL! ... They were burned on my Mac and labeled with ones made using Disclabel software. They look professional, even if I do say so myself. I guess whoever buys this head unit will get a surprise. I hope they like classic Rock-n-Roll!

Looks like the former owner of this 4Runner lost a few screws, too. There were several missing. That's one more little screwup I'll want to fix.

I think it looks a lot better, eigh?

Looks nice. Glad to see you're putting it back together.
What about your fuse issue? Please take detailed pics of the steps along the way when you work on it.
Thanks.

Sooner or later, everyone will make a mistake similar to that. I lost a Windows CD that way, in a CD-ROM drive. Reinstalled the drive a couple years later to find the missing CD.

Yeah, I didn't get to the fuse. I may just hand that over to a dealer mechanic, since it was such a pain the first attempt. But then again, I hate to give up and say I can't do it. I think I just got frustrated since it turned out to be way more difficult that I had anticipated. I had planned on doing the fuse Saturday, but then I decided to tackle the head unit instead. I really should take one more stab at it before throwing in the towel.

The list of things seems to be growing:

1> (Check) Replace worn & dirty floor mats with hard rubber ones
2> 140A Fuse install
3> (Check) Head unit swap and iPod interface install
4> (Purchased) Get oil and filters changed - Mobil 1
5> Get allignment inspection
6> Replace missing bolts discovered during "3"
7> Replace missing cargo cover
8> Shampoo carpet in cargo bay
9> Replace missing floor in cargo bay
10> Hand over to paint and body shop for repair of right front fender panel and paint detailing
11> Get new tires

That much before I'll even think about mods like bull bar or lift, etc...

Yeah, I guess it's lucky for me that they were home made CDs. I can make some more. I'd rather do that than reinstall the head unit to get them out.

Here's an example of one of the CDs.

I know that reviving a 7 year old thread is true necro-posting, but this is one of the first hits on Google and would be a good place to put the solution to the fuse changing problem. Has anyone successfully accessed the 8mm hex nut from under the fuse block?

I finally found these very helpful photos showing where to insert a flathead to release the block from the housing. Hoping they will help someone else.

Any recommendations on how to remove the inner 8mm hex nut?

I've been able to get the fuse box out of the casing, based on the information shared by burninator. But no way I'm getting to the inner 8mm hex nut. Any suggestions on what tool to use to get in there and loosen that one? I'm trying to replace the 140A Alternator fusible link on our 2004 4Runner and finding no further reference online.

Thanks in advance for any help!

For being such a PITA, there isn't a lot of information available. Anyone successful in getting to both these bolts?
