Got scammed, need cheapest options for no 4wd

Bought a 4th gen yesterday with "no mechanical issues" Today I started cleaning things up but found that the actuator is now leaking and i have no 4wd. No lights, no beeping, no diff light either. Seller is no longer responding to me. What is my cheapest options? I'm not too happy.

I figured this board would be more helpful. I guess everyone just cares about lifts, armor and 35's.

You gave little detail.

You don't want my opinion on this.
Plus, it may be creatively misconstrued...

Considering this is a fairly significant investment, you should first document all the claims / promises made from the seller and then seek legal representation.

So what you are really saying is that you didn't test drive it. Right? If you did, your legal options just dried up, IMO.

I have to agree with the test drive comment. If this was a private sale....the vehicle is probably now yours - previous owner can say "everything worked when he drove away".

Time to dig in to some repairs and make it truly yours. I never feel that a vehicle is mine until I turn a wrench on it (or pay for someone else to do the same)

Yup. After $1600 i have 4WD. They tried to fix the motor themselves without taking diff apart...we all know that failed. That's fine but where I got pissed was when it was fixed but my tech said there were no lights or beeping still. Took cluster apart and found back tape over the lights. Not happy and considering taking legal actions. I saved screenshots of the ad and our conversation stating no issues, 4wd in perfect working order etc

I test drove the vehicle, I inspected under the body. No leaks until i got it home. My legal actions did not dry up as i have proof and a tech showing that there was tampering to hide a issue.

You drove it according to your statement.
Did you put it in 4WD? Y/N.

Y+in went into 4WD=your problem.
N+it did not go into 4WD+you still purchased it=your problem.
N+you didn't put into 4WD+you drove it=your problem.

I'm not trying to be a smarta$$, and I'm glad you were able to resolve your 4WD problems. Unfortunately, it cost you additional funds.

Before spending money on legal options, try reaching back out to the seller, informing him of your discovery, and try to get some of your money refunded. If that fails, you always have the legal option.
Spend $150 for an hour of legal time and see what your options are.
Don't waste $2000 trying to recover $1600.
The seller is going to deny knowing about the 4WD problem or tampering with the vehicle. What gives him credibility? You drove it also and didn't know about it.
See if you can find where the vehicle has been serviced before. If there is a service record where the malfunctioning 4WD system was noted, you might be successful.
Good luck, and I hope you are successful

PS...go online to Toyota, upload the VIN and see if any service records are available. Hopefully, he had it serviced and they noted the 4WD issue.

I do not care about the 4WD, I care about the PO hiding and tampering with the vehicle.

Already done, he ignored and blocked me. Got on my other selling FB account to let him know that i'm moving forward with legal action and he locked down his profile and deleted everything work wise. I have a screenshot of him saying 4WD works 100% properly and he used it therefore it had to be him that put the tape behind the cluster. You're way behind, I have already contacted a firm and waiting for response.

He also lied about maintenance, tech said nothing has been done.

Watch the first 5-ish mins. Short version, you are SOL. Does not matter what the seller (assuming a private sale) told you.

Of course, you can sue anybody for anybody for anything. Small claims court may be your best option given the amount.

And even if you get a judgement in your favor, good luck collecting. Been down that road.
