2021 does not like MP3/iPod :( Full Factory Reset?

Has anyone had any sucess either getting an iPod or a flah drive with mp3's to work? I can get it to work when I only have a handful of files, but it does not like when I have a bunch of music on it. Anyone had this issue? Yes, I have tried FAT32 and it works just fine on my 2016!

Also looking for a way to do a full factory reset, wondering if that would help, but I dont see that option on the 2021s...

Thanks All!

Interesting... I had my iPod in a previous vehicle, and liked the convenience. I pondered putting that into my 2021 4Runner also, but ...

I wasn't comfortable with the exposed-visible USB-port on the dash, for connecting an iPod. Previously I could hide it in my glove-box, where I had a stereo-connected USB port.

And I don't love WIRED CarPlay but I do occasionally use it... I wonder if Toyota broke iPod when they reached for Android Auto / CarPlay?

I'll keep an eye on how your search goes, schoeps

On my new 2021 ORP, my iPod Nano works just fine, but I have a 32GB USB that works and at random times it will disconnect. I can wait a bit and then open source and pick the USB again and it will pick up where it left off or sometime it will loose connection again and freak out for a few minutes. It appears to be that USB. I have another USB drive I am going to try, just have not have time to get it setup.

Angry Same Issue

I have a 2021 TRD Off Road Premium, and the iPod interface is absolute garbage, to the point of being basically unusable with both of my newer iPod Touch devices, as well as my older iPod Classic devices (they all suck, but in different ways). I just make my music selections from the iPod itself, which is dangerous while driving, so thanks for that Toyota. I really don't understand this, because the audio system in my 2017 SR5 Premium worked flawlessly with the iPod Touch. So in four years, we've made backward progress. I am trying to contact the dealer right now in hopes that there is a firmware update or something that will fix this issue. I've owned six 4-Runners since 2003 and plan to keep buying them, but Toyota really missed the boat with this horrible new interface.

Anyone figure out a solution?

BUMP
I just upgraded my 2016 ORP Entune 2.0 to Entune 3.0. My OLD unit was able to allow me to Browse all playlists, artists, songs, Podcast. everything. It worked great. But now... as others pointed out...can't do any of that with post 2021 Entune 3.0. Stupid Toyota and their Entune crap.
I LOVE having a separate iPod as opposed to using my iPhone - I don't have the energy to justify that if anyone asks. iPod classics do NOT have bluetooth and I would rather not have the GPS disconnected to fool the computer that I am stopped.
What a total pain and to say browsing is a distraction is total BS....because you can Browse al the other features. The distraction is actually worse with the disabled features one would actually expect.
Anyway, maybe there is a good solution to allow me to use my trusty iPod Classic or Nano.
It may be enough to drive me to return to the original OEM Entune 2.0 and give up all the other benefits of Entune 3.0. Because the main thing I car about on road trips is music and podcasts.
Or I throw the iPods in the trash and forced to use my phone via Carplay (and purchase a huge harddrive iPhone to store my library).

@shock003

I am in the same boat as you. I loved using my iPod with my 2016 head unit but now have Entune 3.0. I couldn't agree more with having a dedicated music player and just leaving it in the car. Car starts up, iPod music starts playing. Simple!

But...Toyota's not working backwards. Apple stopped sells of the iPod Classic in 2014. Makes sense for the product to be left out when making upgrades and progress.

I gave in and got a phone with a larger memory to move my music onto my phone and use Bluetooth. From one dinosaur to another , the user interface on iPhone for searching and navigating is much better and quicker the iPods.

There are ways to add Bluetooth to an iPod Classic if you're so incline.
A Solder-less Bluetooth kit

Good luck.
