Unhappy Power outlets not working??

Hey everybody...this is my 1st post here, so, hello!

I just bought a new Garmin navigation unit, and plugged it into the 12V power outlet (I have a 2003 Sport Edition). It didn't work. I then tried the rear outlet with the same outcome. I checked the 10 amp fuse in the fuse box, and it was ok. I also plugged it into my RX-8 and it worked, so I know its not the power cord.

Anybody have any suggestions?

I really need to get this fixed soon because I'm taking a trip soon and need the DVD player to work for the kiddos, or else its going to be a LONG trip!

I ran a quick search here, and didn't come up with much. Any help would be much appreciated!

I don't know if you already know this but you gotta turn on the plug. There's a button next to the differential lock button on the left side of the steering wheel on the dash under your guages. push to turn on and push to turn off. If you plug in someting that is always on, be sure to push the button off before staring the engine.

It would be the very left button with "12V on/off" (I think)

Oh, I didn't read your post completely... If the rear cig power adapter is not working, I wouldn't have a clue... Sorry.

Yeah, I thought it would be something simple at first, but it still has me scratching my head.

I really want to avoid having to bring it by the dealership...I REALLY hate going in there.

BTW, I know that some 4 runners have that on/off switch next to the diff lock, but if its not labeled, is it not a switch? My wife is driving the 4runner right now, so I can't go look.

That power on/off switch on the dash is for the optional 110V power outlet.

I know the relay that controls the 12V outlets is the exact same one that there was a TSB for on the AC relay that causes the mysterious flashing AC light when it burns up.

Try doing the constant 12V mod and see if they come on...

I did mine...

Hello & welcome.
I have to ask the obvious question: Are the outlets working with the key on the IGN ON position? They are not constant on unless you do the mod.

Yeah, I have the key in the IGN ON pos, and no luck. I'm going to try the DIY mentioned above. Worth a shot. Thanks.

Techsan,
You may have checked the wrong fuse. The PWR OUTLET fuse is 15A and located in the driver side interior fuse panel. Doing the mod won't help either way if the circuit doesn't have power.

I could of swore that the fuse for the power outlet was 10A, however I could be wrong. I'll check for the 15.

Thanks again everyone for the help.

Problem solved...it was the 15A fuse. I was looking at the wrong one. I knew that it had to be something simple that I was overlooking. I can rest easy now knowing that my kiddos will have the DVD player.

I'm a regular on a RX-8 forum, and have to say that you guys are much more helpful/mature than a lot over there.

Thanks again!

bumping a really old thread... because now mine isn't working & I checked the 15A fuse under the drivers kick panel and it's fine. No idea what it could be...... other than a really long process of checking every wire. Any others with this problem & no bad fuses? Haven't checked the relay yet.... getting ready to do that now.

Just discovered in my new to me 2007 that the front console 12v plug isn't working, but the cargo one is. Fuse obviously is fine.

Any suggestions on what to look at next?
