In various vehicles. I've seen rough idling from a number of causes. Simple ones to fix:
- Loose spark plug wire
- Loose distributor
- Poor quality gas (not as prevalent as in the past)
- Obstructed fuel filter
- Incorrect timing, fuel mixture, or idle speed (sometimes hard to figure out with the computers used nowadays)
Others that may be more complex to fix:
- Dirty fuel injectors
- Vacuum leaks
- Bad plug(s) or plug(s) with incorrect gap
Before you think differently, these are in random order.
