difficulty turning steering wheel

Does anyone here know why my steering wheel takes a lot of effort to turn? It seems harder to turn then it used to. I drive an 03 Limited. Recently I had to rent an 08 and the steering feel takes much less effort. Thanks in advance.

Wearing of suspension parts, I.E. ball joints, tie rods, struts can affect steering effort as well as wearing of the steering components, steering gear rack assembly and power steering pump. Also tires that are underinflated can contribute to steering effort
