Question resetting engine light, gas cap off

The gas attendant didn't put the gas cap on my 03' 4runner and I drove around like this for a hundred miles. I tighten the gas cap and disconnected the negative terminal on the battery for an hour. Is this the proper way to reset the light after driving with the gas cap off? Would that damage in any way the oxygen sensors? I am out of warranty and hope that I don't have to take the truck to the stealer. Any help will be deeply appreciated!

all you really need to do is put the cap back on securely and the light will reset after a few ignition cycles. it shouldn't hurt anything.
