Ahhh yes... roll the back window down and take a deep breath. That lovely odorless gas you're breathing now is called... carbon monoxide!! :monster:

so to all the v8 owners out there who's had the sulfur tsb serviced, do you notice any loss in performance or other deviances because of the reprogrammin/new cat.conv. ?

I took mine in yesterday for service and Ourisman Toyota claimed there were no TSB's for the 4Runner smell problem. I'm going to have to go back in a week or so when a part comes in and will be bringing a copy of the TSB with me to see what they say.

Mine is still in the shop

Dropped of at 7am at Stephens Toyota in Bristol. This appointment was scheduled. Regular service oil change and cabin filter, plus a look see at a pulsating brake (rotors being turned), sunroof rattle (completed) and the sulfer smell.

It's 4:50 right now. Still no word on if they are going to flash the ECU and replace the catalytics. I got a call at 2:50 that the technician could't reproduce the problem (sulfer smell) and they can't repair it if they can't duplicate it. I told the service advisor that I would be happy to accelerate and slow down with the side windows down with the tech as a passenger.

I think they will try and fix it.

Well, it's all fixed except for the sulfur smell. They didn't do anything. I don't know who test drove it but they probably drove with the windows up. I will "demonstrate" the problem on the next oil change.

I didn't hear the sunroof rattle on the ay home, and the brake pulsation is gone as well. I didn't realize changing the cabin A/C filter was so expensive. $43 with labor. The part was only $20. Next time I'll do it myself, like tire rotations and greasing the drivetrain.

This was at almost 13,000 miles. Now I wonder if the rotors will need replacing before 100K.

I'm surprised that your rotors were warped (I assume was the cause of the pulsating brake) so soon (13,000 miles). Now they have less mass and are liable to heat up sooner and to a higher temp. As a suggestion, I would think that it is very important that you use a torque wrench when tightening the lug nuts.

Yes, I did use a torque wrench at 7800 miles to reinstall the wheels when I rotated them. The problem didn't surface until a few months ago, around 10,000 miles. And I tightened in a torque distributing pattern also.

My assumption is that there were unrelieved manufacturing stresses in the rotor steel. Over time, the stresses warped the rotor. Rotors are cast, then machined, then they get repeatedly heated and cooled on the truck during braking. If there are grain structures in the steel that relieve in use, the rotor can warp.

That sounds like a logical explanation, but were they all warped? I know the front ones absorb more of the energy when braking. Also, were they covered under the warranty?
