I need some help.
I have been a T4R member since I bought my 03 SR5 in January, and I have learned a lot about my 4Runner from all of you. I hope someone can help point me in the right direction.
Today on my way home from work I noticed that the speedometer was not working. The gauge reads 0 as does the Tach and the Tem Gauge. I stopped at a gas station to fill the tank and the gas gauge seems to be working fine after filling up.
I think I will try disconnecting the battery to see if it will reset anything. If that doesn't work does anyone have a suggestion on what to try next?
I would prefer to fix it myself if possible so any help is much appreciated!
This weekend I disconnected the battery for about a half hour to see if it would reset my speedo and tach... it did not. The Odometer does not show any numbers it just blinks ODO the enire time. All the lighting, the gas gauge, and the shifter/gear indictor are still functioning normally.
Does anyone have a suggestion on what to try next? I plan to take the dash apart and check the connections to the gauge cluster. I need to check the fuses also to see if one is burned out, although it does not behave that way.
There are two screws at the top of the instrument cluster. You need to remove the finish panel around the cluster to gain access to the screws. These two screws are what hold the wiring harness connectors attached to the back of the Instrument cluster in place if they are loose you will have a bad connection resulting in the behavior you described
Given that this thread is more than 16 years old, and given my age then and now, my personal odometer is blinking and my gauges aren't functioning well either ...
