2006 Sport Ed now has the creaking driver seat

Hi Everyone,

I need some help here. Last year I remember reading a topic in this forum about the drivers seat creaking and I thought to myself I hope that doesnt happen to me but now it has started and its getting worse and worse. I remember reading this was a problem with the 2003 and 2004 but didnt know if anyone was also having this issue in their 06 models. I have the automatic seats too and thought the TSB's were for the manual ones. My dealership has always been tough on me whenever i brought them one of my toyotas and i feel like they will probably give me the same old runaround with this issue. They'll tell me its not really an issue, or there is nothing they can do about it. Any advice on what i can do to fix this? I dont think the older TSBs apply to my model but maybe there is an 06 one with this issue? If so i guess i could print it out and take it there. Any help would greatly be appreciated. thanks

Toyota has issued a couple of general TSB's for seat squeaks.

NV004-06 talks about a noise made by the rails where they meet the floor. There's a pin sticking out of the rails that helps line up the rail with the floor during manufacturing. The pins are lined up with holes, and when the pins go in the holes, everything is ready for the rail to be bolted down. The pins are not actually functional, and they can sometimes cause a squeaking because they can move slightly in the holes. The solution is to remove the seat, cut or file off the pins, and then put the seat back in.

NV005-06 talks about a squeak in the rails where the floor bracket is attached to the rail. The answer for that is in the picture below, adding grease as shown.

Hopefully one of those ideas helps.

Hi Toto,

Thanks for the info, one quick observation I should probably add to this thread is something I feel when the seat makes the creak/crack. If I squeeze my arm between the seat and the center console and wrap my fingers around the bottom of the track (the rear right hand side track) when the sound occurs I feel like a pop or really bad grind. Is this the NV005-06 issue? I can actually feel like something in the track is popping or grinding pretty badly.
thanks again

It's always possible that something is broken, too.
The grease trick is cheap and easy enough to try, so I'd start there and see if it helps.
