3rd Gen: turn signal causing downshift

Hey guys, so I just picked this 1999 4runner up and it runs amazingly.

The only issue I have come across is that when I am traveling over 50mph and I use the blinkers the truck will downshift out of overdrive.

It is really peculiar

Also something to note is that when you use one of the blinkers you can hear the solenoid in the center console by the shifter(I am assuming overdrive solenoid?) activating as the lights flash.

I know these have minor electrical grimlims but I can't seem to find any threads with a similar issue.

Read through this thread: Strange electrical issue with turn signals/cruise control

I'm betting the PO put LEDs in the rear - check that first, and if they're there replace them with regular bulbs and see if that doesn't fix the issue.

EDIT: To clarify, I never put LEDs in any of my blinkers - just the others in the rear - but it still caused the issue when the blinker was turned on. Check ALL the bulbs in the rear.

Ok guys got it figured out.

It ended up being both brake lights were out

Luckily I found out right after I got the truck.

All is good now.

Something else to note. I was having issues with the fuel gauge not working as well. After fixing the lights it has been working. Not sure if it's just a coincidence or what.
