I work at a dealership and we get customers with brand new 4Runners so mad about this, some come for this issue alone. Most are happy it's this simple but some still have an attitude afterwards?

I have fixed mine with the window up/down before. However, the last time the wiper didn't work, I had to replace the wiper motor. In my case the wiper wouldn't work, and I couldn't roll down the window, run the rear defogger or washer.

Or the nut has come loose...

A couple of months after replacing rear wiper arm my daughter had the same symptom but in this case it was just the nut holding the wiper arm had come loose under the cover trim piece. Easy fix.

Still Relevant

Had this problem yesterday after doing some sound system upgrades. Must be related to the disconnect of the battery as mentioned earlier.

Rolled rear window down and back up and all is well.

Many thanks, T4R to the rescue again.

My rear wiper and the washer fluid isn't working. The fuse is good, wiper fluid topped off, and the window is definitely up. Any suggestions? Will the rear wiper still work if hypothetically the rear windshield wiper fluid pump was broken or if the reservoir was empty?

Finally figured it out! You need to roll the back window 100% all the way down then back up and problem solved. Rolling the window half way down then back up does not work.

So, my rear wiper and washer stopped working yesterday. Like anybody else, I googled for solutions, which brought me to this online forum. Thanks for this post, it really worked.
