Same problem!!

We have a 1998 4-Runner that is frustratingly doing the same thing as mentioned above- massive power loss when accelerating after the engine is warmed up. We have done the following to address the problem, but no resolution:
-new fuel filter and pump
-new coils and plug wires
-new MAF sensor.

Any other ideas??

Idles fine. No power

99 runner 225k miles. Was idling rough and would stall when idling and rolling like after going over a speed bump or even coming off the highway!

With better gas it happened less often. So I gave it seafoam in the tank. Still happened. Did seafoam spray in the intake. No white smoke and I think I did it wrong - no codes!
- clean MAF
- cleaned intake
- cleaned IAC
Worse!
- replaced plugs and wires
Back to smooth idle - no power.

All ideas welcome!

timosabe,
i am having the exact same issue.
have you figured out the cause yet?
i cannot seem to get to the bottom of it.
no shop, not even the dealer, can diagnose....

Same problem as Timbosabe!

Timbosabe Did you ever figure this out? my 95 4runner does the exact same thing!

(as other guy described "falls flat on its face") If you hold the accelerator down it eventually starts taking off at its own pace. Or he could be on the freeway driving fine and he hits the pedal to pass, and nothing happens. If cruise control is set on 70, then it might drop to 55 all by itself. It is throwing no codes whatsoever, so every shop says, if it's throwing no codes, then we can't fix it. Colder weather, it almost always runs great but with warmer weather it acts up much sooner. So is it possible it could be the mass air flow sensor...?

1995 4runner same problems!

Exactly as described by Timbosabe.

Have any of you tried popping it into low gear, and then back into drive at a stop? It works perfectly but have no idea what the problem is. Only hesitates in 1st gear off a stop

I have the same problem, but only when its cold and first starting out and only in 1st gear.
I felt that it was either am airflow problem or a throttle body issue. Throttle body was just serviced, so I went out this morning and took off the air filter and left the housing open.
It worked 90% better immediately!!!
Still a bit sluggish at the very beginning of acceleration, so am heading to get a new Mass Air Flow Sensor.
Im betting this will fix it!

Has anyone figured out the no acceleration...feels like neutral?? My trans fluid looks and smells great....truck starts rigjt on and idles great everytime...but i xant drive because the truck will just rev and bot accelerate....i start...put in reverse and if im on a hill it will roll forward like its in neutral...then i shut it off...start back up..put in reverse and it back out fine...put in drive and it will either creep witj high rpms and then not upshift...or it just sits there and revs....i feel like this could be something simple....when this happend i was driving aboit 50 mph and it just stopped accelerating....i pulled over ..started back up and it drove fine....3 miles later did it again....there were no noises...no bad feeling...no grinding or slipping...just smoothly revs and doesnt go anywhere...if i push it to about 3000 rpm it will start moving slowly but will not upshift

I am clueless on this.....i do. H
ave a code p0125..insufficient coolant temp closed loop...a lil sludgy in bottom of overflow...but no signs of milkshake in tranny....tranny fluid is perfect

First of all, I'm surprissed with all the support in this forum!!

Same issue in a '03 4-Runner, new fuel filter and pump, but after that i've been reviewing and I think that could be the throttle body. The tricky here is that after some time driving and pressing the accelerator with no response seems that the problem dissapear and the 4-runner runs good again..

Did anyone change the Throttle Body?

PS. No codes here, but haven't scann it on a toyota dealer, just particular.

Any luck? Having similar problem. Hearing a whistling noise when accelerating and when I do step on it rpms go up but no acceleration. If I step on the gas softly i have no issue.

So this just happened to me while on a 650mi road trip.

Every time I hit a bump in the highway, I would suddenly loose power.

Turns out it was a fuse that had popped out and became loose. Wow!

I too have a similar issue.I have a 2002 Limited 4runner, I get the slip indicator light come on ususally when I'm turning left, and lose power completely.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
