burned valves...

i just wanted to post this to get some thoughts on the subject. i have a 94 4runner v6 sr5 4x4 with 154000 miles on it. it recently (past couple months) started running rough at low rpms. when stopped at a light it rumbles and bounces. at high revs it runs nice. i just took it in and the guy said that the computer was giving him mis-fire codes. then he put it on another computer and he found out i have zero compression in #4 cylinder and about 30 psi in #5 (should be about 140?). he said he was 99% sure the exhaust valves in those two cylinders were burned. anyway, he told me that it would be about $1000 total for parts and labor. if anybody has any ideas or advice on this it would be helpful. i cant afford a new vehicle and i cant sell this thing like it is and get what i owe out of it. thanks for any help you guys can give me.

You don't want to get it fixed? Maybe get a 2nd opinion from another mechanic? Most owners are this forum are 4th gen. You might want to try yotatech

Lots of people there have high mileage vehicles, experience with problems like this.

If you can remove the heads yourself and have a shop do the work and put the heads back on it will save the labor cost for you
Which is $$$

You should also try adjusting the valves first could help some.

Try changing your plug wires and/or get a 2nd opinion.
