Whining noise on my '03

Ever since I've had my 4runner I notice a whining noise as I pick up speeds over 20mph(noise gets louder as I go faster), and it changes tone as I let on/off the gas. It sounds like its coming from the driveshaft, but im not really sure. I'd really like to have this problem fixed before I install my new exhaust.

If anyone has any solutions to this problem please let me know, thanks.

You need to isolate the noise. I would start with front diff then tcase, then rear diff. Check the oil in each to be sure they are full. If you have never changed the oils in each you probably need to do so. But once they start whining it is usually too late. Do you have any leaks? Is your trans oil level up where it whould be when hot?

Mine makes this noise also. It's the serpentine belt. If it's new and or put on to tight it can make that noise. Timing belts will also make that kind of noise when they are new or tight. Other sources are the alternator and the tensioner. There is a know problem with the tensioners making noise too.
And yes it could be the transmision or diffs. Any repair shop can check this out if you can't figure it out.
Good luck!
