This site is great and has been an outstanding resource since I purchased my 4Runner.
I did several searches and couldn't find anything on the particular problem that I am having.
My 2004 Liminted V-8 had the leak from the transfer case that some of you also had (read the string on this last year:

Having recently getting this repaired, everything seemed fine. Unfortunately, after a long road trip last week, I went out and started to drive to the grocery. The 4 low light was flashing which was wierd because I had not attempted to put it in 4 low recently. As I backed down the driveway, I could feel the "lock up" of the center differential. There had been no recent effort to engage this either.
The wierd part of this is the fact that there was no light on indicating that the center dif. was engaged.
Anyone have any idea what is going on? This is too wierd.
BTW, the vehicle has 135k miles and the 4wd system gets a regular workout as I live in Colorado and are on back roads all of the time.
I messed around trying to dis-engage, but with no light, I can't tell if it is doing anything.
I paln to take into the shop tomorrow, but am curious if any of you have experienced this or have a simple solution. My sense is that it is not a simple problem.
Thanks for any ideas!
