BTW, the very first thing any competent mechanic will do when diagnosing a potential electrical problem is to check the battery. The strangest things can happen when you have a week or internally shorted battery. All you really have to do is check the voltage to make sure it is fully charged, and then use a load tester to check the amperage of the battery.

I can floor our rig with the VSC never coming on.

That's just wierd. there are alot of factors associated with VSC. Pitch, Yaw, Slippage, Spin (help me out here guys). Maybe something needs to be reset or recalibrated.

Regardless, take the vehicle in asap. 2008 = still under warranty.

Yep... Another one is steering wheel angle.

If the hit on the right front was enough to knock the alignment out and the wheel isn't straight now that may do it.

After a lot of research and prying with Toyota Truck Division (HINO MOTORS) in Japan: Apparently there was a bad batch of sensors for the wheelspin that went out from the supplier to Toyota, they said that only 20% of them went out and that the on board computer has multiple redundancy checks so that even if a sensor malfunctions it would not trigger the VSC to activate. HOWEVER!, they would not comment on whether the on board computer would be smart enough to recognize and prevent VSC 100% of the time that there is sensor error, so there you have it! The culprit is unveiled.

Steering Rack caused VSC activation

My RAV4 steering rack had got mushy and weak after 150,000 miles. Not by much, but I guess "over steered" to compensate. Also noticed the road tilt required more steering correction.
So, the YAW inertia sensors pointed one way and the Steering was pointed farther. The computer thought it was in a skid. Happened left or right, and over 45MPH (Yaw sensors accuracy have a minimum speed?). Somewhat random.
A dealer diagnosed the steering rack, but did not duplicate VSC alarms. My shop said that steering rack replacement are common. So, I had them fix the obvious problem 1st, and the VSC never came back.

I know a log shot on what seems to be like a dead thread,

Have we ever figured this out, I just got one and its doing it. I am too new to post a new thread on here so I am trying to figure it out the old fashion way.
