Sunroof Drain plagged / stereo display won't turn off

I just experienced the same problem on my 04 4Runner, Sunroof drain plugged up... rain came and then water soaked the backseat floorboards. It was all wet before I realized the problem. 1 week later, the multi display and the Nav/stereo display wont turn off even when the key is out. It is draining my battery. I pulled the #2 radio fuse for now. But no stereo...
Just wondering is there any other solution besides doing the by-pass method as mentioned above to fix the issue? Can the radio junction connector be replaced to fix this and where is that located? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Ok i am going to do an update since their is no clear answer on this. I haven't solved my radio problem but have found what could be causing it. As stated above my rear sunroof drains were the issue. After pulling the entire back half of the interior out i discovered that the two rear tubes that lead down to the back of the car to let the water drain were unplugged from the sunroof!!! It was as if someone had pulled them off to clean before but never put the metal clamp back on to hold them and somehow they came off? someone blowing air again to clean drain? who knows but all that water would just run down the a piller then under the seats. All the radio amp and sub and wires looked fine but i haven't cut into the main harness to inspect the wires yet. But this is what i found so far. Soon as i find the main culprit i will post photos and info. thanks kyle

OK after looking on the passange side rear soon as you open the door to the left in the harness all taped up is a connector. So icut it open to find alot of water and corrosion. After further looking i seen it was corroded so bad that a prong had broken off inside the plug. So im searching for a new junction plug to make sure this is the issue but its right where all the water would have been running down. more info to follow

junction block on passenger side rear soon as you open the door in the harness that runs up the wheel well

Close up of the plug on the harness after unplugging the junction block

ok to concluded this wonderful journey for once.. . . Good luck finding a new junction plug from the dealer they don't sell them separate from the $750 harness. So i ended up just cutting the wires and wiring them just the way the plug had them internally connected. Problem solved. If anyone ever has this issue all the info above will cure the problem. thanks kyle

Sunroof water causing radio amp battery drain

Had exact same issue as Black Rock Fab. Had the front end on jack stands for one week while working on front end so car was tilted toward rear. Afterward the radio and climate control back light would not turn off with ignition. Battery drain when checked between negative battery post and loose negative battery cable was about 3.2A. With radio #2 fuse pulled the amp draw reduced to 20mA. After reading this thread I checked the amp area for water. Found right rear cargo floor under felt mat soaked. No dampness around amp, sub woofer, or sunroof drain tube. Checked the wiring harness connector wrapped in tape per Black Rock Fab. Junction was filled with water and corroded exactly as shown in his photos. Cleaned the connector and routed it 180 degrees so water could not drain into it. All is well for now. Would have taken much much longer to find this without this forum. You guys rock!

I just started having the same symptoms and jiggling the shifter after rocking the car from reverse to park, etc. until it would shut off, I figured I had a bad switch somewhere in the shifter. It has been raining off and on for a week, and it rained buckets last night and my "fix" didn't do squat. This is the ONLY thread that I could find anywhere with this fix. I found exactly the same thing with my junction connector, cleaned the connector out and wire brushed the back after pulling the cover off, and now it is all good. It took about 15 minutes from start to finish to fix. I can only imagine how many thousands I would have spent on ignition switches, amps, shifters, steering columns, or who knows what with my "dunno what it is, will just keep guessing and replacing things until its fixed" dealer.

Black Rock Fab, if you are ever in KCMO, PM me and your bar tab and dinner is covered for a night of steak and drinkin! Without your post I am sure a month of steak dinners and bar tabs would have gone to the dealer .

I have this issue to, where I turn off the car completely and my display where the clock is stays on. And sometimes the back light is off but the clock is on, or both are on. Also, sometimes the radio stays on. When I jiggle the shifter, I can see the lights flickering. Any advice or would it be the same thing as black Rock fab?

How do you get all those panels off to get to the wiring? I'm trying to figure it out but I'm getting a headache. I need to fix this issue soon, thanks in advanced!

I had this exact same issue that led me to this thread but I recently found out that the reason why was because I had my signal wire hooked up to constant power and with no amp on the receiving end and was touching my amp "hot wire" meaning my radio would continue to get power as well as my AC controls.

I had the exact same problem as well. But my shop said the water that got in via the backed up sunroof drain shorted out the main wiring harness. Long story short, Toyota doesn't make the wiring harness anymore, my insurance company wouldn't cover a salvage part, so the totaled the Runner and cashed me out.
