Suspension feels "wavy"

Hello everyone,

It is hard to explain, but when I drive over bumps (speed bumps, frost heaves, bridge connectors) my truck feels wavy, almost like it shifts side to side as well as up and down. (Imagine being in a boat at sea)... I have more road noise now from the tires than in the past month and when I steer right, even so slightly, the road noise increases.

I thought that my shocks were going but 2 garages looked at them and said that they didn't see anything wrong but could feel the soft suspension when they drove it.

Any ideas as to what it could be? I am now thinking control arms, tie rods or sway bars.... If I could narrow it down that would be HUGE.

Vehicle Info:

'06 4Runner Sport V6 4x4
74600 miles

Thanks in advance,

Adam

Try this thread.

Maybe there's a leak some where else.

Do shocks have to have a leak to fail? Don't know...just asking. Can the valves go bad inside without having a leak?

What he is describing certainly sounds like it could be bad shocks.....

I have the same issue. '06 Sport. I have 90k miles so I think it's just my shocks getting worn. It used to be a very smooth and tight feeling ride and now it feels like it's all over the road. I can also feel every little bump in the road. I'm going to try new tires first, but most likely will upgrade to the OME lift.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

I dropped it off at the dealership yesterday, just so they could go over it and find out what was really going on. Turns out that the pump for the X-REAS system had rusted and had a hole in it. Guys said that they have never seen one of these rust through before, especially on an '06. Also I have a torn boot, which may be adding to the issue.

$1400 if I was to fix the two shocks, pump, lines and alignment. Another $350 to do the boot.

I'm gonna pull the system and put 5100's or OME shocks on it.

Did you ever replace shocks or get a lift? I'm interested to know if your wavy, boat feeling went away.
