freeze plugs?

i have a friend with what someother "mechanic" diagnosed as bad freeze plugs.... '97 V6.

any ideas of which freeze plug go first? locations?

any help would be great. if it turns out to be an easy repair, i will buy the truck for a great price.

...exactly my problem.... the seller says the truck overheated and pop! they also state that the leak happened at the rear of the intake plenum....are there any hot water hoses or other common sources of problems?

no, i haven't seen the vehicle first hand, that comes in too days.

i admit i'm a complete noob to the 4runner... toyota, in fact.... but i do all the work on my other cars but no toyota's, as of yet.

i really want the easy answer of "yes, that's the usual Blah blah, all of 'em do it "

On a 97 all the hoses are suspect if they are original. Could be a heater hose, theyre right behind the plenum.

I've heard of it being a "blah blah it's common" problem on other brands, but not Toyota. A friend had a Dodge pickup from 97-04 and freeze plugs rusted through regularly on it. That's not to say it can't happen on a Toyota, especially after 13 years. Old hoses are certainly a possibility.

Hopefully someone who has experienced this with their Toyota can chime in.
