Exclamation 1993 3.0 engine maybe froze?

newbie here,

got a 93 t4r 3.0 v6 161xxx was told it sat for at least 3yrs. did a fuel pump cleaned the tank and few other things got it running. i let it idle for about 5 min no issues no smoke no ticking just perfect. then drove it for about 10 min. i pushed in the clutch while in third gear and it shut off and locked up but it would coast in neutral and clutch operates normally engine would not turn over. i didn't notice signs of overheating. got it home all electrical was good. i took off all belts and could turnover every pulley by hand except with a ratchet i can not turn over the crankshaft at all.... i'm thinking timing belt any suggestions????

If you cant turn the crank it definitely is locked up. The tbelt wont keep the crank from turning. Did u change the oil before you drove. Maybe the oil pump gave out or the oil passages are clogged.

I did change the oil, the pump is definitely one of my fears, could it have been prevented. if thats the case whats next part out the truck to get my $ back or find another engine? is it possible to pour some oil in the cylinders to free them up again?

Im always in favor of fixing instead of parting. The cheapest bet would be to find a decent used motor to drop in but that does require quite a bit of mechanical know-how. If you feel comfortable doing that id say go for it. Otherwise you might get enough from parting it out to get a newer model thats running.

I'm open to almost any possibility, and am not sure but someone said is it possible for the waterpump to lock up and keep the crank from turning via timing belt. someone else also suggested because it happened when i pushed the clutch in that the pressure plates could have locked up or one of the teeth could have broke off causing it to stall the engine. any thoughts? guess i need to find time to tear it apart soon to find out what happened will post updates...

got it running

WOO HOOO. got it started this weekend!!! freed up the motor by spraying pb blaster down each cylinder started right up but noticed that my temperature gauge doesn't work. It has good oil pressure. I put in a new thermostat and fresh antifreeze. After letting it run for a few minutes I noticed that the top radiator hose was getting hot and the bottom was cold. then felt the top of the radiator was hot and the entire bottom was cold. im worried it might overheat.

Try taking off both radiator hoses and make sure you are getting coolant flow through your radiator. Glad you didn't give up on your truck.

I'm just glad its running again and surprisingly well, that sounds like a good next move. hopefully I can get to pulling the radiator next weekend to see what kinda flow it's getting. I might try to post some pics soon even though its stock for now atleast...

I just had this same thing happen to my 95 tr4. Thanks for posting your updates; I will try the pb blaster. The only thing that worries me is I have the timing belt off and still cannot turn the passenger side cam or crank by hand.... Previous owner said she would drive it and then when she let is sit she could not get it started again. Any other Ideas out there?

Assuming your cranked motor, there is probably some serious damage and I hope you have deep pockets. In my opinion replace the motor if there's any damage to the crank case. Few years back I had the same problem then I visited 92-95 Toyota 3.0 Engine (Part #: TOYOTA-3VZELB-1) and purchased a used engine for my car at an affordable rate. I hope this information will be of some help to you.

Most of the people who replied in this thread aren't even around anymore. They probably won't see it.
