Fog Light and Low Beam Wiring
I have changed headlight bulbs in numerous vehicles so I know what I am doing (I thought). I replaced the 9006 fog light bulbs, low-beam bulbs and the 9005 high-beam bulbs with HID look blue bulbs (55w for the 9006s). Somethng I have done on both my Integra and 2K Celica. Since then the two bulb clips (factory wiring) for the fog lights and one low beam has failed. The plastic around where the bulbs plug in has cracked and have a black tint to them. Since local speed shops do not carry replacement clips/plugs, I made a trip to the junk yard. I replaced (cut and spliced) the clips with ones from some GM product and they have worked great since. I have checked periodically since.
I don't know what the problem is. I stayed close to the original wattage, they are direct 9006 and 9005 plug-ins. Has anyone encountered this or know what the problem might be? The only thing I can think of is that I bought from a bad batch where the male prongs are larger than stock and is putting a strain on the factory wiring receptacle. By the way, the bulbs themselves have not failed.
