Sound like the starter to me. Its not too bad to remove. 4WD is more difficult than 2WD. Youll need to remove the trans dipstick tube. Should only be one 10 or 12mm bolt. Also it will help to remove the one or two 12mm bolts holding the brake lines to the frame. The line will flex enough after that to work around. Youll have to twist and turn the starter in there until you find the right angle to get it out. Itll probably frustrate the crap outta you but it will come out.
